Professional sports is a business. No matter how much certain players enjoy being around each other, there comes a time when moves have to be made for the greater good of the team. Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson was reminded of that fact days ago when he watched his team pass on re-signing fellow rusher Tyler Allgeier.
Tyler Allgeier Begins a New Chapter With the Cardinals
After spending the past three seasons in the backfield sharing snaps with Robinson, Allgeier inked a two-year, $12.25 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals on March 9. With newly hired head coach Kevin Stefanski leading the team, the Falcons are entering a new era.
Robinson and Allgeier became close friends during their time sharing the backfield, and Robinson has been supportive of Allgeier’s new opportunity to thrive with the Cardinals.
“I mean, obviously me and Tyler, we’ve done some cool things here. Tyler’s one of my best friends and he’s my brother, and I’m very happy for him and what he’s about to do in Arizona. I just saw him like last week, so me and him were like sad, sad as heck. I was like, ‘Bro, you can still come back, man.’ But it’s cool to see him thrive somewhere and be the guy. I know he has worked super hard. He’s one of the most selfless individuals I know. For him to go up there and and make his presence known will be pretty cool,” Robinson said.
Although it’s clear now that the Falcons have found their go-to back in Robinson, the loss is still a tough one to swallow for their offense. During his four seasons with the Falcons, Allgeier did everything that was asked of him and more.
As a rookie in 2022, he was thrown into the starting running back role right out of the gate and responded by making a notable impact. Allgeier racked up 1,035 yards on 210 carries and 4 touchdowns as a rookie and continued to evolve his fast, physical game from there.
While he saw his usage dip once the Falcons drafted Robinson in the first round in 2023, Allgeier’s ability to score in the red zone still kept him on the field during plenty of big moments. In 2025, Allgeier earned a 50.6 RB Impact Score, which ranked 43rd among all running backs, per PFSN’s NFL RB Impact Metrics.
With the Cardinals, he’ll likely receive the same, if not more, usage than he did with the Falcons alongside seasoned running back James Conner.
How the Falcons Will Replace Allgeier
Weeks after Allgeier was signed, the Falcons plugged the gaping hole in their backfield by picking up free agent Brian Robinson Jr. on March 24. Robinson Jr. spent the first three years of his career with the Washington Commanders and was the pinnacle of consistency, logging between 700 and 800 yards on the ground each year.
This past season, Robinson got to soak in advice from one of the premier running backs in the NFL, Christian McCaffrey, during the San Francisco 49ers’ run to the Divisional Round. Now, he’ll get to learn from another.

“Obviously here, now we have Brian [Robinson Jr.]. Me and Brian, we became close already. He’s one of the most solid dudes, just me talking to him and passing by throughout our careers. But he’s already ready to go. Like, we’re already talking about what’s to be expected, what we want to do, how we want to do it,” Robinson added.
“Obviously, like, when you have another guy that can carry the load too, it always helps you out. That’s why I appreciate Tyler so much and how we just became that one-two [punch]. Now, me and B-Rob becoming the one-two [punch], it’s going to be pretty elite,” Robinson added.
