Coco Gauff slams "insecure" critics as she refuses to apologize for her natural Miu Miu photoshoot.

Coco Gauff’s Miu Miu bag photoshoot was supposed to showcase a seamless blend of high-end fashion and the rhythms of everyday life. Gauff, an ambassador for the brand, hit the mark with her concept and execution, but the online community offered polarizing opinions.

Coco Gauff Refuses To Apologize for Her Natural Miu Miu Look

Over the past 12 months, Coco Gauff has consistently treated fans to a series of striking looks, showcasing Miu Miu’s refined yet playful aesthetic. Whether arriving at tournaments or appearing in editorial settings, she has used fashion as an extension of her identity, reinforcing her status not just as a tennis star but as a rising figure in fashion.

Recently, she promoted Miu Miu’s latest launch, the Vivant bag, with a classic photoshoot. The American wore a technical jersey polo shirt, a technical jersey skirt, and brushed leather penny loafers to complement the standout accessory. She opted for no makeup and a hair bun to complete the look.

Gauff clarified that the pictures were not part of a production shoot. She arranged an informal photo session in her parents’ backyard with her social media strategist, having received a concept briefing from the Italian fashion brand.

After noticing the conflicting reactions to her pictures, the 22-year-old felt compelled to address the unfair backlash. She also explained that while Miu Miu provided the aesthetic, she was fully in charge of the final look. “The girls who get it, get it; the girls who don’t, don’t,” she said.

While justifying why she opted against a slicked-back hairstyle, Gauff remained unapologetic. “I’m not gonna apologize for the way that my hair looked because there are other girls who have the exact same hair as me, and I just wanted them to see; feel represented that your hair is literally fine the way it is.”

Coco Gauff believes that everyone should feel free to celebrate their personal aesthetic without fear of judgment. Embracing that philosophy in her own life, she fluidly shifts between makeup and no-makeup looks depending on the setting.

“I’m not going to apologize for my makeup. I don’t feel the need to put on a full face of makeup to take photos. I’m not hating on people who do that because I am someone who also will put on a full face of makeup just to take photos. It’s just that day I didn’t want to do it because (of) the creative concept; that was not the point of it.”

The 22-year-old inferred that the criticism of her minimalistic look stemmed from haters’ personal insecurities.

“To all the young Black girls out there who have kinky hair like me, do what you want to do with your hair,” she said. “At the end of the day, people who hate on your appearance and hate on the way that you look have something deeply insecure about themselves. The only reason people comment on people’s looks, especially people who present themselves in their most natural sense, have something deeply wrong with them.”

Gauff has been outspoken about the damaging effects of online hate, often choosing to step away from social media to distance herself from its growing toxicity. The two-time Grand Slam champion expressed regret over returning to these platforms, particularly after facing a wave of negative commentary surrounding her recent photoshoot.
