Oilers HC Addresses Why Connor Ingram Was Pulled From SJ Sharks Game

Kris Knoblauch addresses why Connor Ingram was pulled against the Sharks, a move that may affect the Oilers' division title push.

The Edmonton Oilers have won their 40th game of the season, giving them 2 crucial points to surge ahead in the Pacific Division race. With few games remaining and a division title at stake, every point has more weight.

Their latest win over the San Jose Sharks highlighted both scoring depth and in-game adjustments. Still, a sudden goalie change to start the third period involving Connor Ingram drew immediate attention. After the game, their coach explained the decision.

Why Edmonton Oilers Goalie Connor Ingram Exited Early Against the Sharks

The focus after Edmonton’s 5-2 win on Wednesday shifted to Ingram, who did not return for the third period despite staying on the bench. Head coach Kris Knoblauch clarified the situation, pointing to a cautious approach rather than a serious setback.

Knoblauch explained that Ingram began feeling discomfort late in the second period, prompting an evaluation during a TV timeout and later in intermission. The coaching staff and medical team decided it was better to avoid any risk, especially with the game under control. He said Ingram “felt some discomfort” and after getting checked, “it was best to not play the 3rd.”

Before leaving, Ingram handled his workload effectively, stopping 8 of 10 shots across two periods. He remained engaged from the bench, even stepping onto the ice briefly during a third-period break to stay loose. That detail suggested the issue was manageable, though the team avoided pushing him further.

Tristan Jarry stepped in for the final period and closed the game without trouble, turning aside all 4 shots he faced. The smooth transition in goal allowed Edmonton to maintain control, especially as its offense set the pace throughout the night.

Connor McDavid led that push with a dominant performance, recording a hat trick and adding 2 assists. His involvement in all 5 goals highlighted Edmonton’s attacking depth, while contributions from Vasily Podkolzin and Jack Roslovic helped stretch the lead.

Knoblauch credited the full group effort after the win, noting that McDavid’s impact was clear but not the only factor. “It was a very good effort by everybody. Obviously, McDavid was our best player, and it showed up on the scoresheet,” he said. He also pointed to the power play, which produced 3 goals and played a key role in the result.

The decision to hold Ingram out is important, as Edmonton looks ahead to key games. With the team sitting at 40-29-10 and holding 90 points, he will be crucial in the race for the Pacific Division lead.

There is still no confirmed update on the exact nature of Ingram’s discomfort, though there is some speculation that it could be related to his groin. His availability for the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Kings remains uncertain, and the team may need to adjust if he cannot go.
