Momentum shifted in the second set, with the Filipina seizing a 4-1 lead and putting Ostapenko under pressure once more. This is when the 28-year-old’s frustration spilled over as she confronted a fan in the crowd, sarcastically inviting them to take her racket and demonstrate how to play.

After dropping another game to trail 1-5, the Latvian called over a tournament official during the changeover. She provided a description of the disruptive fan and demanded they be removed if the behavior continued.
“If these people do it again, they have to go out. But if it’s again, he’s out. It’s not normal,” she said.
