Fernando Mendoza’s 44-Touchdown Weapon Names His Colts Desire Ahead of NFL Draft

With the 2026 NFL Draft approaching, teams are bringing prospects in to determine their fit. Elijah Sarratt out of Indiana University is gaining momentum, especially concerning the Indianapolis Colts.

Sarratt recently spent time with the Colts. He didn’t work out on the field, but he sat down with wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne. When asked about the possibility of landing in Indianapolis, his reaction was upbeat about staying in Indiana.

Elijah Sarratt Emerging as a Logical Fit in Indianapolis

“That would be a special spot man. Being in Indiana these past two years, just knowing the fanbase and the support they have for me and everyone around it would be great,” Sarratt said.

Sarratt was a go-to option at Indiana during Fernando Mendoza’s breakout run last season, which led to Mendoza winning the Heisman Trophy. Sarratt was a focal point in the red zone, leading the FBS with 15 receiving touchdowns this past season on the way to winning a national championship.

From the Colts’ perspective, the fit is logical. The franchise is adjusting after trading Michael Pittman Jr. to the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason, creating room for someone to step in and take on targets. For quarterback Daniel Jones, having a reliable receiver to finish drives in tight windows provides a needed weapon.

Sarratt is sitting around WR15 on PFSN’s consensus big board. The receiver class is deep, meaning players will get pushed down the board. Sarratt projects as a second-to-third-round selection depending on how teams stack their rankings.

There is a natural connection between the player and the franchise. He built a legacy at Indiana, knows the area, and it wouldn’t require a major transition. If the Colts are looking for someone who is productive, trending up, and performs in critical moments, Sarratt checks multiple boxes.
