Lane Kiffin wasted little time making his presence felt after arriving at LSU, and now his staff has Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman looking over his shoulder. The Tigers have zeroed in on Abraham Sesay, a four-star edge rusher from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, who ranks among the premier pass-rushing prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
With Kiffin’s program ramping up its pursuit during spring camp, the competition for Sesay’s commitment is heating up, and one of college football’s most recognizable brands now finds itself fighting to hold its ground against an LSU program hungry to build its defensive front.
Lane Kiffin’s LSU Turns Up the Heat on Top-Ranked Edge Prospect
Sesay made his way to Baton Rouge recently to observe LSU’s spring practice, marking an escalation in the Tigers’ efforts to secure one of the most coveted defensive prospects in the country.
LSU defensive line coach Sterling Lucas has made recruiting pass rushers a defining priority this spring. The Tigers previously hosted five-star commit Jaiden Bryant and also brought in Anthony Sweeney, rated the No. 5 pass rusher in the 2027 class. Sesay’s visit to campus fits squarely within that pattern, signaling that Kiffin’s program views edge talent as central to its identity under new leadership.
247Sports offered an assessment of the Downingtown product, describing him as “a long and fluid edge defender” with “gap-closing burst and pursuit range” who “shoots out of both a two and three-point stance with little wasted motion.”
The scouting report further noted that he “tends to win with speed on the corner, but can also play through contact” and “projects as a potential difference-maker on Saturdays that can rack up negative plays with his burst and tackle radius.”
Sesay holds scholarship offers from Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State, Miami, USC, and LSU, among a growing list of programs. LSU, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Miami, and Florida State have emerged as the top contenders, though Duke has also entered the conversation.
Notre Dame and Penn State Battle LSU for Sesay’s Commitment
While LSU has surged in recent weeks, Notre Dame and Penn State have been the two programs applying the most consistent pressure in Sesay’s recruitment heading into the spring evaluation period. The Fighting Irish extended an offer last November and quickly moved to the top of his list of priorities, a testament to the program’s national brand and academic reputation.
Sesay acknowledged the pull of South Bend when discussing Notre Dame’s appeal. “I’m definitely interested in Notre Dame,” he said. “I’m interested in what they have to offer. I know a lot about their education and their structure and how Notre Dame is in their culture and I really respect that a lot.”
Penn State has also been aggressive, with coach Christian Smith, who previously recruited Sesay at Northwestern, maintaining a strong relationship with the prospect.
“Notre Dame and Penn State has been recruiting me pretty hard,” Sesay said. “Penn State has including Coach Smith while he was at Northwestern.”
As Sesay prepares for a busy stretch of official and unofficial visits, LSU’s late entry into the upper tier of his recruitment has reshuffled the landscape. With Kiffin’s staff demonstrating the relentlessness that defines high-level recruiting, Freeman and the Irish can no longer assume the inside track is theirs to hold.
