Cam Newton Warns Auburn Recruits to ‘Get Out of My Face’ if Not Winning

Cam Newton tells Auburn recruits and parents to "get out" if they aren't winning, linking NIL money to on-field results.

When Cam Newton stepped back onto The Plains, he wanted to help his alma mater. Perhaps the most famous quarterback in school history, Newton commands attention. His words and actions carry meaning within the program and fanbase. As a result, his latest Auburn opinion was not to be missed.

Cam Newton Blisters Auburn Recruits Over Lack of Performance

Despite playing just one season at Auburn, Newton etched himself into campus history. He led a team that finished undefeated and won the national championship. During a workout at the team facility, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner lashed out.

Cam Newton delivered a blunt message this morning to recruits and strength and conditioning coach George Courides after his personal workout with Courides at the Woltosz Football Performance Center.

“If they ain’t about winning they can get out of my face and go back to where they came from. I’m tired of supporting something that’s not winning! Can you deliver that message to the parents? Especially to the parents. Before they ask for money, WE. WANT. WINNERS. That’s our restitution. We give you money, you give us wins, and if you don’t. CTRL. ALT. DELETE.”😤🦅

Since NIL became a dominant part of the college football landscape, Newton has argued that no money needs to change hands unless there is a shift in mindset and a focus on production. Moreover, Newton emphatically implored the parents, especially those who act as agents for their children, to understand what the university wants.

In recent seasons, Auburn has not enjoyed the same measure of success that Newton did during his one season. In fact, the school’s last national championship victory was the title game against Oregon, with Newton at quarterback. Since then, the Tigers have appeared in 11 bowl games, sporting a 3-8 record.

The last bowl victory for the program came in the 2018 Music City Bowl, a 63-14 win over Purdue. Since then, the school has cycled through several head coaches, including those working on an interim basis. Now, Alex Golesh, formerly of South Florida, takes the reins of a team that wants to compete in the SEC.

Newton only won at Auburn, winning all of his starts. Subsequently, he seems to want the same for the program. However, finding a quarterback who combines for 4,369 yards and 51 total touchdowns in one season, as Newton did, could be considered difficult.

The metric bears that fact. According to the PFSN CFB Offense Rankings, Auburn occupied the No. 37 spot last season.

The Tigers, in the most recent recruiting cycle, ranked No. 22 in FBS, according to 247Sports. On top of that, Golesh crafted the transfer portal signees to his style and culture. For instance, he brought former USF quarterback Byrum Brown to run his version of the spread offense.

On Sept. 5, Auburn heads to Atlanta to take on Baylor in the Aflac Kickoff Game. Can the recruits show Newton enough to sway him?
