Taylor Fritz Stays True to His Words on Injury by Scrapping Monte-Carlo Plans

Taylor Fritz officially withdraws from the Monte-Carlo Masters as ongoing knee tendonitis forces him to prioritize full recovery.

Taylor Fritz will not be seen in action at the ATP Masters 1000, the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, as the tournament officially confirmed his withdrawal from the clay-court event due to injury. This decision follows his campaign at the Miami Open, which ended with a round-of-16 loss to former World No. 16 Jiří Lehečka.

Taylor Fritz Decides To Skip Monte-Carlo Masters for Health Recovery Following Injury Issues

Fritz’s absence from Monte-Carlo is the latest setback in his ongoing battle with knee tendonitis, a condition caused by repetitive strain that has affected him since the 2025 offseason. While most players prepared for the new season, the American focused on recovery and rehabilitation.

Ahead of his 2026 United Cup appearance, Fritz said he was unable to train effectively due to the injury, stating, “I couldn’t really [target] anything. I said at the end of the [Nitto ATP Finals], my goal was really just to try and rehab my knee. I still have pretty serious tendonitis, and that’s something that takes a really long time to get rid of.”

Following that, he reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, lost the Dallas Open final to Ben Shelton, advanced to the quarterfinals at the Delray Beach Open, and exited Indian Wells in the round of 32 against Alex Michelsen.

During his press conference before the Miami Open, Fritz explained that if results did not improve, he would take time off to recover fully and skip the clay season.

He said, “This is kind of the cut-off. We said, after Miami, if we’re not seeing big improvements, it might be time to just, like, slow down a bit on the playing and get it healed 100 percent. Because if there was a portion of the season that I think I’d be more okay missing, it would be the clay-court season, like I did last year. I think this week is going to be very telling for it. But, overall, it’s not bad.”

The Monte-Carlo Masters confirmed his withdrawal, adding in a statement: “Taylor Fritz has been forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back soon.”

Last year, Fritz also missed Monte-Carlo due to an abdominal injury after reaching the semifinals in 2023, where he lost to Andrey Rublev.
