Browns Insider Shuts Down Myles Garrett Trade Rumors After DPOY’s Contract Restructure

Mary Kay Cabot shuts down Myles Garrett trade rumors, noting Cleveland can fix its quarterback room without moving the defender.

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has established himself as one of the best defensive players in the history of the NFL. Now, having twice won the Defensive Player of the Year and being named both an All-Pro and a Pro Bowler seven times, there is no denying his impact.

However, that impact also increases Garrett’s value to the team and the league. Could the Browns use Garrett as a way to solve their long-running quarterback problem?

Why the Browns Aren’t Considering Trading Myles Garrett

Garrett earned himself a PFSN EDGE Impact metric score of 95.6 for 2025, or an A, which ranked him at the top of the league for all edge rushers. He also set the single-season sack record in 2025 with 23 sacks.

However, this hasn’t translated to wins for Cleveland, and after a 3-14 record in 2024, he asked for a trade. Garrett told the world he wants to win a Super Bowl now. The Browns refused to consider his request and ultimately settled on a four-year, $160 million extension to keep the phenom in Cleveland.

While Cleveland improved slightly in 2025 to 5-12, fans are tired of the quarterback carousel. On a recent episode of “The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima” on 92.3 The Fan, longtime Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot joined the show.

Lima said he thinks that Garrett is holding the team back from finding their next franchise quarterback. He suggested that they might consider trading him.

“As long as Myles Garrett is healthy and playing for the Browns, they have no shot to get the first or second pick in the draft. He’s too good,” said Lima.

He said that in the games they won, it was often because Garrett was simply on the field. Cabot agrees with Lima about Garrett’s impact but disagrees that the team needs to trade him.

“I don’t know if you can say that with any degree of certainty, that it’s going to prevent them from getting a quarterback. Certainly, other teams have found a way to get a quarterback and to be successful, without having to use the No. 1 pick on the quarterback,” said Cabot.

“As it stands right now, and I know this, they don’t have any plans to trade him right now,” added Cabot. “I know that they don’t. Now, can that change? I suppose anything can change.

“Pretty much everyone has a price. The modifications that they made on Tuesday were not with the intent to trade him. I don’t think that not trading him prevents you from fixing your quarterback situation.”

She is referring to the interesting contract adjustments that the Browns and Garrett agreed upon. According to NFL reporter Field Yates, the two sides agreed to change how his bonuses are paid out in a way that benefited Garrett.

These changes, while somewhat confusing, also help the team’s flexibility to create more cap space each season. However, it does open the trade window each year for Garrett even though he has a no-trade clause in his contract.

The Browns ended the season with Shedeur Sanders under center, but it is unclear what they plan for the start of 2026. He will likely face open competition from Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel. With Garrett announcing his desire to win it all, it will be interesting to see how long he is willing to stay.
