The Edmonton Oilers showed signs of a contender on Tuesday night, earning a convincing 5-2 win over the Utah Mammoth. The victory pushed Edmonton into second place in the Pacific Division, moving them ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights.
Leading the way once again was captain Connor McDavid, who delivered a highlight-reel moment that quickly grabbed attention.
Connor McDavid’s Milestone Performance Fuels Oilers Victory
With the game tied 2-2 in the second period, McDavid tracked down a bouncing puck, blew past Utah’s defense, and slid a quick finish past Karel Vejmelka to give Edmonton a 3-2 lead. The speed and control of the play made it an instant highlight and shifted momentum firmly in the Oilers’ favor.
After the game, McDavid reflected on his approach to scoring. “Goal scoring is something that has not come easy to me or naturally to me,” McDavid said. “So, something that I work at, something that, I focus on…. There’s good nights and bad nights in that area. And I’m fortunate to have scored a couple goals.”
Alexander Kerfoot opened the scoring in the first, but Jack Roslovic quickly tied it for Edmonton. In the second period, Matt Savoie gave the Oilers the lead short-handed before Lawson Crouse responded moments later to make it 2-2.

McDavid then restored the advantage, and Roslovic added his second of the night. McDavid later sealed the 5-2 win with an empty-net goal late in the third period.
On the overall performance, McDavid credited the team effort. “I thought we did a good job checking tonight, keeping them kind of on the outside and um but they got some great shooters that can score from out there. So Jarry was good, too,” he said.
The night also featured milestones for McDavid. He became the fifth player in Oilers history to score 400 career goals and joined Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux as the third-fastest player to reach 1,200 points.
McDavid acknowledged the achievement with gratitude. “Yeah, fortunate to have played with some really great players… Obviously, these milestones are just a nice time to reflect and just very grateful to have played with so many great players,” he said.
He also praised the team’s overall performance and said it was the kind of effort they hope to replicate in their next game and consistently moving forward.
The Edmonton Oilers will now look to carry that momentum into their matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday.
