Mirra Andreeva’s run at the 2026 Miami Open concluded in the fourth round when she lost to Victoria Mboko. Following Andreeva’s defeat, Serena Williams’ former coach, Rick Macci, identified weaknesses in the Russian’s game that contributed to her loss.
In addition to her singles competition at the WTA 1000 hard-court tournament in Florida, Andreeva also participated in the doubles event. The former world No. 5 and Diana Shnaider were the defending champions but did not participate together this year.
Instead, Andreeva partnered with Mboko, and they won their first-round match against the eighth-seeded pair of Ellen Perez and Demi Schuurs before withdrawing ahead of their second-round match.
Rick Macci Blames ‘Meltdowns’ and ‘Tantrums’ for Mirra Andreeva’s Miami Open Loss
Andreeva was seeded eighth in singles at the 2026 Miami Open and started her campaign in the second round after receiving a bye in the first round. She won her opening match against McCartney Kessler 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-1, and then defeated the 32nd seed, Marie Bouzkova, 7-6(4), 6-2 in the third round. Her run ended in the fourth round when she lost to the 10th seed, Mboko, 6-7(4), 6-4, 0-6.
Following Andreeva’s loss in Florida, renowned tennis coach Macci took to social media and expressed that her “meltdowns” and “tantrums” on the court during challenging moments had become a “slippery slope” that contributed to her defeat against Mboko.
“Because of the meltdowns/ tantrums her fighting spirit was not same against [Victoria] Mboko. This is now a slippery slope for the Russian Rabbit. Her strength is also her weakness. Her fire makes her a brutal competitor,” Macci posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Macci mentioned that Andreeva needs to find her “ideal performance state,” where her mind is calm, as this would help her perform better and secure victories in future matches.
“But she is pumping the brakes too much to show a happy go lucky side, Needs to find the IDEAL PERFORMANCE STATE where the mind is calm but intensity level is off the charts. She will figure it out. @WTA @MirraAndreevaFR,” he added.

Looking ahead, Andreeva is expected to compete in the 2026 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix, scheduled for April 13-19, 2026. The tournament matches will be played on the indoor clay courts at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany.
In addition to the former world No. 5, players like Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, Jasmine Paolini, Elina Svitolina, Zheng Qinwen, defending champion Jeļena Ostapenko, as well as former champions like Elena Rybakina and Iga Świątek, among others, are also expected to compete at the WTA 500 tournament.
