Carson Beck Rejects Francis Mauigoa’s Claim to Settle Pre-Draft Speed Debate

Carson Beck shuts down Francis Mauigoa's claims that the lineman is faster, settling a Miami locker room debate before the draft.

The bond between Carson Beck and Francis Mauigoa became the heartbeat of Miami’s 2025 campaign, proving that locker room chemistry is often the X-factor in a championship run. They connected instantly through a shared sense of humor and a mutual obsession with professional standards. However, it is their speed debate that caught the fans’ attention, and it seems Beck has settled it once and for all.

Carson Beck Shuts Down Francis Mauigoa’s Speed Claims Ahead of 2026 NFL Draft

Beck joined Ryan Wilson and Ran Carthon at Miami Pro Day, where the Hurricanes quarterback shared his biggest takeaways from the event. In between, Carthon brought up Mauigoa’s claim without directly naming him. Beck quickly understood and humorously denied the claim.

Beck said, “Yeah… well, no, he is not faster than me. There’s no way. I got tackled by somebody when I was at Georgia, I forget who we were playing, and I guess he was watching the game. Ever since the first day I came here, he’s watched that and said that he’s faster than me. And no, he is not.”

Mauigoa, during 2025 spring practice, had claimed, “I told him (Carson Beck) the first day he walked into our locker room: ‘Carson, I saw that Georgia-Tennessee tape. I saw you getting caught from behind by a linebacker.’ I looked him in the eyes and told him, ‘I’m 330, and if I’m chasing you, you aren’t getting away from me either’.”

Interestingly, Miami’s Pro Day numbers reflect the gap. Beck put up a 4.70-second time for the unofficial 40-yard dash, whereas Mauigoa’s reported weight of 335 pounds makes his functional speed a point of discussion for NFL prospects. While Mauigoa continues to tease his quarterback, the data gives Beck the edge in a straight sprint.

Fans can imply that Mauigoa’s constant ribbing about Beck being caught from behind by a linebacker served a deeper purpose: it stripped away the transfer superstar label and made Beck one of the guys. As Mauigoa noted during their Pro Day, Beck’s humility, never mentioning his rings while constantly working to earn his place, cemented the trust of the offensive line.

On the field, this connection was symbiotic. Mauigoa provided elite pass protection, allowing Beck to operate with surgical precision. During the 2025 season, Mauigoa allowed just one sack over 440 pass-blocking snaps, helping Beck record 3,813 passing yards and 30 touchdowns.

PFSN’s Alec Elijah has Mauigoa going to the Detroit Lions as the 17th pick and Beck as the 85th pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers in his latest 3-round mock draft.
