Michael Pittman Jr. was recently traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers after spending his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts. One of the biggest unknowns he currently faces is who his quarterback will be for the upcoming season. He recently addressed the situation and gave his take on Aaron Rodgers’ potential return.
Michael Pittman Jr. Addresses Quarterback Uncertainty After Joining Pittsburgh Steelers
Rodgers has yet to decide whether he will play in the 2026 NFL season, and the Steelers have not officially clarified their quarterback plan. The two sides appear interested in continuing to work together for another year, but Rodgers is currently without a contract and may be considering retirement.
Pittman was recently acquired by the Steelers to bolster their receiving corps, a position of weakness last year. He spoke about the possibility of playing with Rodgers and expressed confidence in Will Howard and Mason Rudolph.
“Whenever you have a chance to play with a Hall of Fame quarterback, you always take that. We also have two really good quarterbacks here in Mason and Will, so whatever ends up turning out, I think we’ll have a good plan offensively and we’ll make the most of it,” Pittman said.
Howard was drafted by the Steelers in the sixth round in 2025 as a developmental quarterback, but he is now considered a potential starter for the upcoming season. Rudolph is the other quarterback currently on the roster, and while he has much more experience, he appears more likely to serve as a backup, whether or not Rodgers returns to Pittsburgh.
Pittman battled through poor quarterback play during his time with the Colts, but still finished among the top 50 wide receivers in PFSN’s Impact Rankings in four of his six seasons in Indianapolis.
An unsettled quarterback situation is familiar territory for him and could help ease his transition in Pittsburgh.

The veteran receiver made it clear that he welcomes the opportunity to play with a legendary quarterback like Rodgers, though he does not seem worried about the team’s offensive outlook.
He finished his time with the Colts, catching passes from another legend in Philip Rivers, who came out of retirement late in the 2025 season, while the Steelers’ potential starter now contemplates stepping away from his own iconic career.
