Travis Etienne Jr. always suspected that life, and football, might eventually bring him back to Louisiana. After five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the running back signed with the New Orleans Saints in free agency this week. He is back in the place where his football imagination first took root.
Travis Etienne Jr. and Brother Trevor Set Up NFC South Sibling Rivalry
For Travis, growing up in Jennings, Louisiana, Saints games weren’t background noise in the Etienne household; they were an event. Travis remembers watching the team religiously, captivated by quarterback Drew Brees and the franchise’s energy during its peak years.
That admiration followed him to Clemson, where he wore No. 9 in a quiet tribute to the quarterback who helped spark his football dreams.
Long before Travis was an NFL veteran returning home, he was simply a kid in Louisiana tossing a football around with his younger brother, Trevor Etienne. Their great-grandmother was a passionate Saints fan, and somewhere along the way, that loyalty trickled down through the family tree before landing squarely on the shoulders of two brothers who turned backyard imagination into professional careers.
Their childhood games looked a lot like Saints highlight reels, at least in their minds.
According to ESPN, Travis liked to channel Deuce McAllister, leaning into straight-line speed and power when he ran the ball. Trevor, the younger brother by nearly 6 years, gravitated toward Reggie Bush’s flashier style.
It was playful then. It’s a little more serious now.
Trevor joined the Carolina Panthers after being selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Suddenly, the brothers who once pretended to be Saints stars in the backyard are lining up against each other in the NFC South.
And Travis wasted no time reminding Trevor what that means.
Saints sideline reporter Jeff Nowak wrote on X: “Travis Etienne said the first thing he told his brother, Trevor, who currently plays for the Panthers, was: ‘I hope y’all get a good wild card spot because the division is ours’ #Saints.”
The line carries just the right amount of older-brother confidence: half playful jab, half competitive declaration.
Despite the trash talk, the bond between the two is unmistakably close. Travis and Trevor talk nearly every day, trading insights about the game and, occasionally, a little unsolicited advice.
Travis, who has a score of 61.7 on PFSN’s RB Impact Metric, has taken the role of mentor seriously over the years, even reviewing Trevor’s game film during his college days. That balance, supportive big brother and relentless competitor, has defined their relationship since they were kids.
