Sabalenka vs Rybakina Head-to-Head
The upcoming match will be the 16th professional meeting between the two players on the Tour, with Sabalenka holding the slight edge with an 8-7 lead in the head-to-head. However, it was Rybakina who triumphed in their previous meeting at the Australian Open final, winning 6-4, 4-6. 6-4.
Sabalenka has been near-flawless at Indian Wells so far, with the Belarusian yet to drop a set, defeating the likes of Himeno Sakatsume, Jaqueline Cristian, Naomi Osaka, and Victoria Mboko to reach the semifinals to face 14th-seeded Linda Nosková. Sabalenka took hold of the match early against the Czech, securing a double break in the first set, and then closing it out on her serve on the second time of asking. In the second set, the top seed once again broke early and then used that early advantage to close the match in straight sets.
Rybakina began her campaign with a tricky three-set win against Hailey Baptiste in the second round, but as the tournament progressed, the third seed found her rhythm, getting past the likes of Marta Kostyuk, Sonay Kartal, and Jessica Pegula to reach the semifinals. She faced off against an in-form Elina Svitolina in the last four, with the first set being tight. The Kazakh got the decisive break in the 11th game and served out the set. In the second set, she surged forward, taking a 5-1 lead over the Ukrainian, and despite a late surge from the latter, closed it out at 6-4.
Sabalenka vs Rybakina Prediction
From a statistical perspective, the Australian Open final between Sabalenka and Rybakina was as close at gets, as both players won the same number of points in the match. Their serve numbers were close: Sabalenka won 75% of first-serve points and 48% of second-serve points, and Rybakina won 76% of first-serve points and 48% of second-serve points.
However, one key difference was break-point conversion: Sabalenka converted 2 of 8 break-point opportunities, whereas Rybakina converted 3 of 6, giving Rybakina the decisive advantage in the final set.
The upcoming match is set to be a close contest, with the PFSN Simulator giving Sabalenka a 60% chance of winning. However, given her recent struggles with finals and her losses against Rybakina, the Kazakh remains well within the contest. For Sabalenka to reverse the trends in the final, she needs to keep her composure and not let go if she gets an early advantage.
Meanwhile, Rybakina will be confident, having beaten Sabalenka twice in their last two meetings, including at the Indian Wells final. However, given her motivation and her status as the top seed, Sabalenka is the slight favorite to get it done in three sets.
