After Michael Pittman Jr. was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, many fans and analysts questioned how the veteran wide receiver would fit with the team. Amid the conversation, Pittman took it upon himself to assure Steelers fans that he’s ready to give his all.
Michael Pittman Jr. Ready for Next Chapter of Career
On Friday afternoon, just days after being traded, Pittman appeared on the Pat McAfee Show to discuss his past tenure with the Indianapolis Colts, along with what type of player the Pittsburgh Steelers should expect.
He noted, “I just feel like my style of football just fits in [Pittsburgh]… that smouth mouth football… that’s the way that I play… and I’m going to fit in well here.”
Pittman added he’s “excited about it, fired up. I talked to coach Mike [McCarthy], and everything he has planned for me, and it just sounds great. I’m stinkin fired up to be here.”
Pittman, a 28-year-old wide receiver who spent each of his first six NFL seasons with the Colts, has built a reputation for being a reliable, sure-handed pass catcher who excels in one-on-one situations.
While this has undoubtedly remained true for the two-time 1,000-yard receiver, much of Pittman’s value also comes from his overall physicality. Standing at 6′ 4″, 223 lbs, Pittman is one of the better run blockers at his position. He’s also consistently shown the ability to fight for yards after the catch, all while playing through several injuries in his career.
Pittsburgh, which, in the past, has often relied on its running game and a strong defense, may aim to return to that form in 2026. The quarterback position is still undecided, meaning it’s crucial the team loads up with as much surrounding talent as possible.
Again, Pittman is the first step towards that. Despite catching passes from Riley Leonard and Philip Rivers for a fair portion of the 2025 season, Pittman still managed to haul in 80 receptions for 784 yards and a career-high in touchdowns with 7.
Lining up alongside him will be two-time Pro Bowler DK Metcalf, who may very well be the most talented WR Pittman has ever played with, once they take the field together. Metcalf has three 1,000+ yard seasons across seven years.
According to PFSN’s metrics, Metcalf posted an 80.2 impact score this past season, which placed 23rd overall among wideouts.
While the quarterback decision still looms, Pittman, Metcalf, and a solid defense give Pittsburgh a strong foundation heading into 2026. With that core in place, the Steelers will aim to compete for a playoff spot and potentially an AFC North title.
