Former NFL WR Sounds Deafening Alarm Over Kyler Murray Amid Vikings’ Interest in Signing 2-Time Pro Bowl QB

T.J. Houshmandzadeh warns Vikings that Kyler Murray's discipline issues are a red flag and his on-field results haven't silenced critics.

After being released at the start of the league year, former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has hit the open market, and teams are interested. With Murray being a former first overall selection and never being as bad as other top picks categorized as “draft busts,” the talented quarterback will have choices for his next destination.

Former NFL WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh Voices Concerns Over Teams’ Interest in Kyler Murray

One team that has been heavily linked to Murray is the Minnesota Vikings, and that could be where he chooses. It’s by far the best destination to start right away in 2026, be added to a talented offense with weapons throughout, and learn under Kevin O’Connell. The two sides met on Thursday.

Even with the Vikings’ clear interest, former NFL wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh has concerns about the team going after Murray, and it comes down to his discipline:

“Can Kyler Murray give you some discipline?, cause why they put that in his contract? I don’t care how talented you are, if you ain’t disciplined enough to do what it takes to get it done. Cause they just didn’t put that in his contract for no reason, and everybody know what I’m talking about.”

If you do not know what Houshmandzadeh is talking about with Murray and the contract stipulation, here is a quick explanation. When Murray signed his $230.5 million extension with the Cardinals, there was a clause that required the quarterback to watch at least four hours of film each week on his own.

Understandably, when this was revealed, many in the NFL saw it as Murray not being committed to football, which they believed would affect the team’s on-field performance.

Although Murray has publicly attempted to put that speculation to rest, his play on game days has not, which is why Houshmandzadeh is bringing it up now.

Per the PFSN NFL QB Impact Metric, since 2019, when he was selected, Murray has never entered the top 10 in quarterback ranking and, for the most part, has stayed around the late teens to early 20s. This was not good enough for Arizona, which was one reason they moved on from him.
