Bears Named Potential Free Agency Landing Spot for 48-Sack Star As Chicago Aims To Go All-In for Super Bowl Run

Veteran edge rusher Bradley Chubb could help turn the Chicago Bears defense into a unit that is capable of winning it all.

The Chicago Bears are coming off one of their most successful seasons in quite some time. The team saw its first playoff win since 2010. With the team gaining momentum, there could be a player who helps them achieve greater goals.

Bradley Chubb’s Move Could Take the Bears to the Top

If the Chicago Bears brought in former Miami Dolphins Edge Rusher, it could be a great move on several fronts. The first is Bradley Chubb, as a player himself, who had a great year last season despite facing some adversity

As Jacob Infante of PFSN put it, “Coming off a torn ACL in 2024, he bounced back this past season… finishing with 8.5 sacks.” Chubb’s 8.5 sacks are also good for his third-highest in a season. Additionally, Infante predicted the Bears as Chubb’s landing spot.

Additionally, according to PFSN’s Edge Impact Metric, Chubb recorded 20 QB hits this season, a number that is good enough to rank 10th in the NFL. The fact that Chubb had one of his best years shows he is progressing rather than regressing.

Chubb would also bring veteran experience to the Bears. Chubb has been in the league since 2018, when he got drafted by the Denver Broncos. While in Denver, Chubb played alongside Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller. So, Chubb would bring experience not just in years, but also from playing alongside great players.

The Bears’ defense was a very odd unit last year. With the bad, they allowed the 12 most points per drive according to PFSN’s Defense Impact metric. Using that same metric, they also got a C- overall grade for the defense, which is not great.

However, they also got the most takeaways in the NFL with 33. So when defensive coordinator Dennis Allen needed his team to step up and make a play, they did. However, relying on leading the NFL in takeaways in back-to-back years is not the most reliable. So, bringing in Chubb could improve the unit overall.

The Bears struggled mightily in the pass rush, ranking near the bottom in sack percentage. A PFSN metric that measures how much a defense pressures the opposing quarterbacks on dropbacks.

The Bears applied pressure on quarterbacks only 29.9% of the time. For a division that has great quarterbacks, such as Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions and Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers, getting pressure on the quarterback is crucial.

Given the Bears’ defensive shortcomings, Chubb could help. The Bears are also in the window to go win now. While head coach Ben Johnson’s offensive brilliance is not going anywhere, the financial side is more important for the Bears.

Standout players on the squad, such as quarterback Caleb Williams, wide receiver Luther Burden III, and tight end Colston Loveland, are only on rookie contracts for a limited time. When the Bears do pay them, it will be a lot of money.

So, overall,  if the Bears want to get their first Super Bowl since 1985, the time to strike is now. Adding Chubb could help this team’s defense and have another successful year in the Windy City.
