Bears Floated As Free Agency Landing Spot for 4-Time Pro Bowler After Trading D.J. Moore to Bills

After trading D.J. Moore to the Bills, the Chicago Bears may look to free agency where they could pursue a four-time Pro Bowl defender.

The Chicago Bears made a major roster move a week ahead of free agency by trading wide receiver DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. With the Bears expected to explore upgrades across the roster with the freed-up cap space, one analyst has floated Chicago as a potential landing spot for a four-time Pro Bowl defender on the free agent market.

Chicago Bears Floated as Free Agency Landing Spot for Trey Hendrickson

PFSN analyst Jacob Infante listed the Bears as a potential landing spot for Cincinnati Bengals edge rusher Trey Hendrickson in his prediction column.

Hendrickson missed most of the 2025 season due to a severe hip injury, appearing in just seven games and ending his four-year streak of Pro Bowl appearances. The injury also resulted in his lowest sack total since he served as a backup player with the New Orleans Saints in 2019.

Despite the shortened season, Hendrickson remains one of the most accomplished pass rushers expected to hit the market.

Across nine NFL seasons, the 31-year-old has recorded 81 sacks, including back-to-back 17.5-sack campaigns in 2023 and 2024, earning a Pro Bowl selection in four consecutive seasons he played for the Bengals after joining the franchise in 2021.

Before suffering the injury in Week 6 against the Green Bay Packers, Hendrickson had recorded 4 sacks in seven games during the 2025 season. That production would have projected to more than 13 sacks over a full 17-game campaign.

Even in limited action, he ranked No. 12 in the PFSN EDGE Impact Metric. PFSN projects Hendrickson to command a three-year contract worth roughly $25.7 million annually. Along with Chicago, the Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts have also been mentioned as potential landing spots for the veteran edge defender.

Bears Look to Reshape Their Roster After D.J. Moore Trade

Chicago’s potential interest in strengthening its defense comes shortly after the team traded Moore to Buffalo in a deal that will send a 2026 second-round pick to the Bears while also including a 2026 fifth-round selection.

The move addresses a major need for the Bills, giving quarterback Josh Allen another established target in the passing game.

However, for the Bears, the decision is a required change in their offense. Moore is coming off the least productive season of his career, finishing the 2025 campaign with 50 receptions for 682 yards and six touchdowns while averaging just 10.0 fantasy points per game.

His role had gradually diminished as younger receivers emerged. Rookie wideout Luther Burden III delivered an impressive debut season, finishing 11th among all receivers in the PFSN NFL WR Impact Rankings while ranking seventh in yards per target.

Rome Odunze also continued his development in his second season, doubling his touchdown total and improving his yards-per-game output.

With Burden and Odunze now forming the core of Chicago’s receiving group, the Bears appear comfortable moving forward with a younger offensive nucleus around quarterback Caleb Williams.
