The Houston Texans are widely expected to prioritize upgrades along the offensive line as they continue building around quarterback C.J. Stroud. A recent analysis suggests Houston could pursue a veteran All-Pro guard to reinforce the interior.
Houston Texans Could Target Veteran Guard Wyatt Teller
PFSN NFL analyst Jacob Infante highlighted Wyatt Teller as a veteran interior lineman who could attract teams searching for stability up front. Teller spent the 2025 season with the Cleveland Browns and remains widely respected after earning second-team All-Pro honors earlier in his career.
Infante wrote: “Over the last two seasons, Wyatt Teller has missed a combined eight games for the Cleveland Browns. At 31 years old with injuries slowing him down, he’s not quite the same All-Pro type of guard he was a couple of years ago.”
“That said, teams will value Teller’s starting experience, even if it’s just as a stop-gap option at right guard. His 33rd rank among guards in OLi indicates he’s an average starting guard, which should be enough to get him some good money on a short-term contract,” he continued.
The projection estimates Teller could command a contract worth roughly two years and $7 million per season.
Houston Focused on Supporting C.J. Stroud Entering 2026
Houston’s offseason approach has already shown a willingness to reshape the offense as the team prepares for another playoff push. The Texans released running back Joe Mixon in a move that created roughly $8 million in salary-cap space. Houston also traded for David Montgomery, giving the team a powerful lead back as it retools the offense around Stroud.
General manager Nick Caserio has also made it clear that the franchise remains fully committed to Stroud despite outside speculation. When asked about trade rumors surrounding the quarterback at the combine, Caserio dismissed the idea outright and reiterated that Stroud remains the centerpiece of Houston’s future.
Stroud helped guide the Texans to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons, but his most recent campaign included uneven performances down the stretch. Houston’s postseason ended with a Divisional Round loss to the Patriots.
Adding an experienced guard could help address Stroud’s turnover issues. Cleveland acquired Teller ahead of the 2019 season, and he soon secured the starting right guard job. His punishing run blocking became a defining part of the Browns’ offensive identity, leading to 94 starts and consecutive second-team All-Pro selections during his prime.
Injuries have slowed him in recent seasons, though his experience and physical style remain valuable traits for teams needing interior line depth.
Houston should view that type of addition as part of a broader effort to stabilize the offensive line and support Stroud. Strengthening the interior protection would help the quarterback regain the form he showed earlier in his career and keep the Texans firmly in the AFC playoff conversation.
