The future of Dallas Goedert in the Philadelphia Eagles remains uncertain as he prepares to enter free agency. One recent report suggests the Eagles are preparing to sign a veteran playmaker as a potential replacement.
Eliot Shorr-Parks Says Eagles Have Interest in David Njoku
Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.com reported on X that the Eagles have interest in signing David Njoku if the veteran tight end reaches the open market.
“The Eagles have interest in David Njoku, per league sources,” Shorr-Parks wrote. “Would be a signing that gives them one of the best athletes in the league at the position and finally gives Njoku an elite, consistent QB to play with for the first time in his career. Something to keep an eye on.”
The post adds another layer to the speculation surrounding the Eagles’ tight end position and whether the team could eventually move on from Goedert. Njoku appears likely to draw interest across the league when free agency opens next week.
The nine-year veteran recently indicated that his time with the Cleveland Browns is coming to an end after sharing a farewell message with fans on social media and confirming he would seek a “new home” when his contract expires.
Originally selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Njoku spent nine seasons in Cleveland and became one of the most productive tight ends in franchise history. He ranks second in Browns history in receptions by a tight end with 384 catches, trailing only Ozzie Newsome. Njoku also ranks sixth in franchise history in touchdown receptions with 34 and 12th overall in receiving yards with 4,062.
Njoku’s best season came in 2023 when he recorded 81 receptions for 882 yards and six touchdowns, a performance that earned him Pro Bowl honors. Injuries and the emergence of rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. reduced his role during the 2025 season, when Njoku finished with 33 receptions for 293 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games.
Njoku remained efficient when targeted. His 5.7% drop rate in 2025 was the second-lowest mark of his nine-year career. PFSN Analytics graded him at a 71.5 score in the PFSN Tight End Impact Metric, ranking 48th among qualifying tight ends. In the right system, Njoku likely still has a lot to contribute.
The Eagles could represent that opportunity. Pairing Njoku with quarterback Jalen Hurts would give the veteran tight end the type of quarterback stability he has rarely experienced during his career.
Goedert has played a major role in the Eagles’ offense for several seasons, contributing as both a reliable receiving option and a physical blocker in the run game. But reports about the Eagles’ roster have raised questions about whether the team would eventually look for a new tight end.
If the Eagles ultimately move on from Goedert, Njoku would give the Eagles another experienced pass-catching option at tight end with the athletic profile to fit their offense.
