Coco Gauff Explains How Her Parents Remain Central to Her Life Despite Her Decision To Move Out

Candi Gauff and Corey Gauff have long been central to Coco Gauff’s journey, providing unwavering support as she climbed the ranks of professional tennis. Candi frequently cheers for her daughter from her player box at major tournaments, and together, both parents have made notable major sacrifices to nurture the American star’s development.

Both parents were accomplished college athletes. Corey played basketball at Georgia State University, while Candi competed in track and field at Florida State University. As their children were growing up, the couple encouraged each of them to focus on sports. Coco chose tennis, while Codey and Cameron pursued baseball and football, respectively.

That support has helped the 21-year-old remain among the sport’s crème de la crème, having amassed 2 Grand Slam titles so far. Gauff has consistently highlighted her parents’ role in her rise, and she did so once again during the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells.

During her pre-tournament press conference, Gauff was asked whether her father, Corey, still takes care of her car and if her mother continues to do her laundry, as she had revealed a few years ago.

Gauff explained that she now enjoys living independently and prefers returning to her own space. However, her father still helps by taking care of her car when needed. While her mother no longer does her laundry at home, she occasionally helps with it during tournaments.

“No, it’s actually quite the opposite. I now enjoy being by myself, and there are times, because I have my younger brothers, they’re like, ‘Are you spending the night here?’ I’m like,’ No, I’m going back to my bed.’ My dad is still, he’s very kind. He still does take care of my car for me. When I’m gone, I’ll leave the keys, and if it needs to be taken to service he’ll take it,” she said.

“Or if the air pressure in the tires are low, he’ll take it for me. My dad is very kind. But no, my mom doesn’t do my laundry anymore unless I’m literally sick, which I haven’t been.
At the tournaments, she does it. When she’s here, and there is a laundry room, she will do it, but not at home,” she added.

Gauff has seen mixed results in the 2026 season. She advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open but endured an early exit in Doha before rediscovering rhythm and confidence with an improved showing in Dubai. She reached the semifinals there, but eventually fell to an experienced Elina Svitolina.

The 21-year-old will shift her focus to the BNP Paribas Open, a title that has so far eluded her. She has received a direct entry into the fourth round and will face the winner of  Bianca Andreescu and Kamilla Rakhimova’s first-round clash.
