Breece Hall entered the 2026 NFL offseason on an expiring contract with the New York Jets. They avoided their star running back becoming an unrestricted free agent by placing their franchise tag on him. Negotiations for a long-term deal are expected to continue, with his projected salary reflecting his performance.
Breece Hall Contract Projections With Jets After Receiving Franchise Tag
Hall has ranked among the top 25 running backs in PFSN’s Impact Rankings for each of the past three seasons. His best performance with the Jets came last year, when he finished 14th, just in time to give him leverage in contract negotiations during the offseason, as his current deal was expiring.
The Jets decided to place their franchise tag on Hall, which amounts to a one-year contract worth just over $14 million. They are permitted to continue negotiating a new deal while he is tagged, as both sides reportedly prefer to reach a multiyear agreement.
According to PFSN Analytics’ projection based on Hall’s grades on PFSN’s RB Impact Metric, he is expected to get a three-year, $28.8 million deal with an annual average value of $9.6 million. This would place him among the top ten highest-paid running backs in the NFL by AAV ahead of the 2026 season. This list is topped by Saquon Barkley at $20.6 million per season, and includes just nine players at or above $10 million.
Hall probably hasn’t done enough during his career to this point to crack the top five, but being among the top ten seems fair based on his consistent contributions. It’s important to note that his franchise tag would pay him significantly more during the 2026 season than a projected multiyear contract, but carries the massive risk of playing out an expiring situation.
The veteran has had injury issues during his young career, and given the extensive history of running back injuries, Hall should be motivated to seek the security of additional years. He will only be able to do so with the Jets this offseason because he was tagged, so if he wants to negotiate with other teams, he will have to wait until at least next offseason, unless they tag him again.
His name came up during the trade deadline last season as a rumored candidate to be moved, but a few months later, the Jets are demonstrating their intent to keep him around. They are currently rebuilding their roster, but they apparently see a place for him.
