Aryna Sabalenka Draws Pointed Reactions as Belarusian Turns Heads at Gucci Event

The WTA world No. 1 opened her 2026 season in dominant fashion at the Brisbane International. After cruising through the draw, she comfortably beat Karolína Muchová and Marta Kostyuk in the semifinal and final, respectively, to secure her first title of the season.

She then turned her attention to the Australian Open, and her trademark dominance was once again evident as she did not drop a set en route to the semifinals and later sealed another straight-set victory over Elina Svitolina.

However, her bid for the Major title ultimately fell short, as she suffered a three-set defeat to Elina Rybakina in the final.

The Belarusian has not featured on tour since, having withdrawn from the WTA 1000 event in Dubai due to what she described as a right hip injury. Still, amid her absence from competition, she embraced her glamorous side, recently attending Demna’s debut fashion show for Gucci in Milan.

At his first show, creative director Demna presented a collection featuring legging-style trousers, streamlined mini-dresses, and chic gowns. The Georgian designer took over the role in July last year after spending a decade at Balenciaga.

Sabalenka, who became the Italian label’s global brand ambassador last month, wore a sophisticated ensemble featuring a black turtleneck as a base layer, black wide-leg trousers, and oversized sunglasses and pointed-toe heels. A grey plaid blazer and a chic Gucci purse further elevated her look.

Sabalenka shared a series of pictures from the event on Instagram and captioned, “@gucci 🖤 congratulations to @demna on a breathtaking show, grateful to have witnessed such a defining moment. #GucciPrimavera.”

Moreover, Sabalenka’s boyfriend, Georgios Frangulis, who has been a regular presence at her matches since they began dating in 2024, also shared a heartfelt message in the comments section. “Damn meu amor,” he wrote.

Frangulis launched Oakberry in 2016, transforming the açaí-focused venture into a globally recognized franchise with a multimillion-dollar footprint. With the Indian Wells Masters fast approaching, it remains to be seen whether the Belarusian will return to competition there.
