Sergei Bobrovsky Trade Looming for Florida Panthers
At the heart of the speculation is veteran goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. He’s in the final season of his seven-year, $70 million deal and carries a 16-team no-trade clause. Bobrovsky played a pivotal role in leading Florida to back-to-back Stanley Cup wins over the Edmonton Oilers, firmly cementing his place in franchise history.

The Panthers are currently eight points back of the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. They’d have to leapfrog four teams just to get into the playoff race, which makes their road ahead even tougher. If things don’t turn around soon, Florida could shift into seller mode, and Bobrovsky would likely be its biggest trade asset.
Statistically, this hasn’t been Bobrovsky’s strongest season. He has a .871 save percentage and a 3.13 goals-against average, numbers well below his previous standards.
Still, experienced goaltenders with a championship pedigree rarely hit the trade market at the deadline. Even in a down year, Bobrovsky’s resume alone would attract interest from contenders looking for stability in net.
Another insider, Jeff Marek, speculated that a move could make sense depending on Florida’s direction. “If we’re going to play goalie on the move, San Jose would make sense to me for Bobrovsky,” Marek said.
San Jose, with young goalie Yaroslav Askarov seen as the future, could benefit from adding a veteran like Bobrovsky for leadership and stability.
For now, it’s all speculation. Florida still has time to turn things around, but the pressure is mounting. The Panthers return to action Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, a matchup that could carry significant weight in shaping their approach to the deadline.
