Emma Raducanu Opens Up About Her Split With Coach Francisco Roig

Roig joined Raducanu’s team during the North American hard-court swing last year. He has an impressive coaching background, having worked with Nadal from 2005 to 2022 and then with Matteo Berrettini from December 2023 to October 2024.

Raducanu has a history of changing coaches frequently. Before her split with her ninth coach, Roig, she had worked with Nick Cavaday, Nigel Sears, Andrew Richardson, Torben Beltz, Dmitry Tursunov, Sebastian Sachs, Vlado Platenik, and Mark Petchey.

Recently, while speaking to The Guardian, Raducanu stated that she is not actively seeking a new coach. She described her experience with Roig as great and mentioned that she still maintains a good relationship with him. However, she said she and the Spaniard weren’t aligning on certain key aspects, which led them to stop working together.

“Right now I wouldn’t say I’m actively looking for a coach. I think I had a great experience with Francis in terms of how we got on so well … the rapport was great. I think in the end, we just weren’t aligning on certain key aspects. But we still maintain a really good relationship,” Raducanu said.

The 23-year-old also talked about working with Alexis Canter, with whom she found some success, reaching the semifinals at the 2025 Citi DC Open and finishing as the runner-up to Sorana Cîrstea at the 2026 Transylvania Open. She indicated that she knows the “drills” she needs to focus on to develop a more “aggressive” playing style.

“Right now I have Alexis in my corner. He knows me as a person. He knows me as a player. And I’ve actually had some success with him in the past year in Washington and Cluj … so it’s going well. I know the drills that I need to be doing right now at this moment in time … just repetition of doing those key fundamentals. I think I want to go back to that and [develop] a more aggressive style of playing,” she added.

Earlier this year, Raducanu expressed concerns about her technique, stating she wasn’t satisfied with her current approach and wished to return to the style of play she had when she was younger.

Looking ahead, Raducanu is set to compete at the 2026 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells, which will take place from March 4 to March 15, 2026. The main draw matches will be held on the outdoor hard courts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The former US Open champion achieved her best result at the WTA 1000 hard court tournament in California in 2023, where she defeated Danka Kovinić, Magda Linette, and Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first three rounds before losing to Świątek in the fourth round.
