NFL Free Agency is set to begin shortly, and there are some juicy names set to hit the free agent market. One of those players is Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver Romeo Doubs. Doubs earned a 77.9 WR Impact Score according to PFSN’s WR Impact metric, and is an interesting case. Doubs has two 100-yard receiving games in his career, but both came in the playoffs.
That could make him a coveted man when the new league year begins, and here is a look at some teams that could be interested.
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers’ passing attack was truly a one-man band last year, with Tetairoa McMillan asserting himself as the team’s top receiver. That worked enough for the Panthers to win the NFC South and push the Los Angeles Rams to the brink of elimination in the playoffs.
Now, more will be expected of the Panthers in 2026, and they’ll need to add some help to their passing game. Doubs could be someone who steps in and fills the veteran presence the Panthers lost when they traded Adam Thielen to the Minnesota Vikings.
Doubs can make plays in the middle of the field, which is where Bryce Young and Dave Canales want to attack opposing defenses.
New England Patriots
The Patriots are working through the sting of losing the Super Bowl to the Seattle Seahawks and are now focused on getting back to the big game and winning it. One place the Patriots could improve is their weaponry around Drake Maye.
Stefon Diggs had a good season, but he was the only consistent receiver, and was also released recently. Doubs is a better player than Mack Hollins and Kayshon Boutte, both of whom were top targets for Drake Maye this season.
If the Patriots could add some young speed to the position in the draft, Doubs could be a solid addition as a veteran for them as well. The Patriots have more than enough cap space to win a bidding war if one were to break out.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers could be a suitor for another receiver, but that could be contingent on whether Aaron Rodgers remains under center.
With Mike McCarthy taking control of the sidelines, Rodgers may return for another season, and he may want some more help on the outside. Before the 2025 season began, Rodgers was reportedly asking about the status of Romeo Doubs in the Packers.
Now, with the Packers likely to let Doubs walk, the Steelers could be potential suitors once again. In theory, Doubs’ skills fit well with DK Metcalf, whom the Steelers acquired last offseason via trade.
With Mike McCarthy’s system set to take over in Pittsburgh, they’ll need some reinforcements on the outside, regardless of who the quarterback is.
Tennessee Titans
Robert Saleh is familiar with Romeo Doubs as well. He spent some time with the Packers in 2024 after being fired by the New York Jets, helping Matt LaFleur and the offense. Saleh is now in Tennessee and could use some help at receiver for his young quarterback, Cam Ward.
Ward had some high moments last season, but could use more impact players around him. Calvin Ridley was supposed to be their top receiver, but he only caught 17 passes a season ago, struggling with an injury.
Doubs has been a steady presence during the first three years of Jordan Love’s tenure as a starter, and that stability could attract the Titans to pursue him in free agency.
Important Dates in 2026 NFL Free Agency
The legal tampering period runs for 52 hours, opening Monday, March 9, at noon ET and closing at 3:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 11, just minutes before free agency officially begins.
During that window, teams can negotiate with the certified agents of players set to become unrestricted free agents. Verbal agreements can be reached and reported, but nothing is official yet.
For the first time, teams can recruit up to five players and speak with each for up to 1 hour via video or phone, rather than routing all contact through agents. The player’s agent must be present on every call. If a team wants to meet a player in person or have him visit a facility, that still must wait until free agency is officially underway.
Free agency officially opens at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 11, when the NFL’s new league year begins. That’s when contracts become official, not when they’re reported. The trading period also opens at that moment, allowing previously agreed-upon deals to be completed.
All teams must be cap-compliant by the 4 p.m. Wednesday deadline. The 2026 salary cap is set at $301.2 million, a $22 million increase from 2025.
Most of the market’s top players will have agreed to terms well before Wednesday afternoon. The tampering window exists to give that process structure. What’s new this year is that players themselves, not just their agents, can now hear directly from the teams pursuing them.
