Colorado head coach Deion Sanders evokes a myriad of opinions. When an alumnus decided to voice his opinion regarding Sanders’ career in Boulder, another Buffaloes alum also decided to opine.
Former Colorado RB Phillip Lindsay Comes to HC Deion Sanders’ Defense
In three seasons as head coach, Sanders sports a 16-21 record, with one bowl appearance. However, Sanders also brought attention back to the school. In turn, that helped raise funds for the program and the school.
Yet, one alum took the time to air his displeasure with Sanders. Former Buffalo tight end Christian Fauria made his feelings known here. Meanwhile, Lindsay, who ranks No. 2 on the school’s all-time rushing list, detailed a different opinion, taking Fauria to task.
Lindsey called out Fauria, saying, “What this man did, that was personal. What about the other coaches that were losing? I didn’t see him walking through the building in 2016 congratulating us.”
In the clip, Lindsay makes the case that while he didn’t always agree with what Sanders has done around the program, he feels like Fauria went too far.
One possible issue between Fauria and Sanders could center around his son, Caleb. The younger Fauria played for Colorado from 2021 to 2023. He played a year for Sanders before transferring to Delaware.

During his career with Colorado, Caleb played in 17 games, catching three passes for 23 yards. As a result, Lindsay intimates that the elder Fauria harbors resentment towards the coach.
Meanwhile, according to College Football Reference, coaching in Boulder is not easy. For example, since 1991, the Buffaloes have had just two ten-win seasons. Furthermore, the program has won one bowl game in that time period. From a marketing standpoint, he captured the program’s attention.
Colorado, with one winning season in its tenure, can spend a little more on players than it used to. One of their areas of concern could be the offense. Colorado occupied the No. 80 spot on the PFSN CFB Offense Impact Rankings.

Fauria’s comments have been met with condemnation from people in and around the program, not just Lindsay. he said, “I don’t like the way he coaches FB. I don’t think he’s very bright. There’s a lot of flash & no substance. All your victories are hollow. The emperor has no clothes crowd that support him.”
Buffs News Weekly posted Lindsay’s video on X and captioned it, “Glad Lindsey called it out… obvious Fauria is not commenting as an alum but as a father upset about his son. Was not warranted when he said nothing with other coaches, but we all know why they comment on Prime… it’s all about clicks and attention!”
To this point, Sanders has not offered a public response. However, given his media presence and notoriety, you can almost assume he will offer one soon.
Some see Fauria as an impassioned alum. He was an All-American selection and a three-time All-Big East selection at tight end. Under those circumstances, he may feel as though his points are warranted.
Meanwhile, Sanders will continue to turn the program around. 43 players transferred into Colorado, which he hopes will help his program get back to its winning ways.
