Since entering the NFL after a successful collegiate career at the University of Florida, Kyle Pitts has had an up-and-down career thus far with the Atlanta Falcons.
Pitts is a free agent this offseason, and with his future uncertain, the Falcons are predicted to add a 34-touchdown tight end to bolster their already skilled offensive group.
Kyle Pitts’ Uncertainty Leads to Prominent Tight End Reuniting with Kevin Stefanski on Atlanta Falcons
After the departure of the Cleveland Browns’ Kevin Stefanski, it appears that David Njoku could be right behind him after posting what seemed to be a farewell message to the franchise on social media.
In 2022, Njoku signed a four-year, nearly $55 million contract with the Browns, which means that he will be a free agent this offseason, just like Pitts. Especially with the meteoric rise of rookie tight end Harold Fannin, Njoku is likely on his way out of the franchise.
PFSN’s Jacob Westendorf predicts that Njoku will reunite with Stefanski in Atlanta and says the following:
“The Falcons could be in the market for a tight end if Kyle Pitts commands a large contract elsewhere.
Should that happen, Atlanta will still want to surround quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with as many weapons as possible.
In addition, the Falcons’ offense is young at the skill positions, led by Bijan Robinson and Drake London. Njoku could be the piece they add to provide a veteran presence while maintaining impact in the tight end room and creating opportunities over the middle of the field in the passing game.”
Here’s how Njoku’s career stacks up thus far against Pitts.
David Njoku
With the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Browns selected Njoku out of Miami (FL).
In his nine-year career, Njoku has caught 384 receptions for 4062 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns. According to PFSN’s NFL Tight End Impact Metric (TEi), his best season came in 2023. That season, he ranked as the fifth-best tight end with an impact score of 82.6 and a letter grade of B-.
Kyle Pitts
With the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Falcons selected Pitts out of Florida.
In his five-year career, Pitts has caught 284 receptions for 3579 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. In PFSN’s TEi, his best season was actually this past season (2025), where he finished with an impact score of 82.7 and a letter grade of B-.
It’s uncertain whether Pitts will re-sign with Atlanta or not. However, if he does leave, Njoku would be the top replacement, especially considering his bond with Stefanski.
