Illinois vs. Michigan State Prediction and Preview
The Illini have won 12 straight, a run that includes road wins over Purdue and Nebraska, as good a two-game resume as you’re going to see.
It’s not a fluke.
They have five players who average in double figures, and their top two bucket-getters on a per-game basis (Keaton Wagler and Kylan Boswell) are also 1-2 in assists on this team.
While Boswell (hand) is nearing return, he’s not there yet, so his impact is more a long-term conversation, but one to consider as we near tourney time.
When it comes to Sparty, their stock is as low as it’s been this year. Not only have they dropped consecutive games (Michigan and Minnesota) after winning 11 of 12, but Tom Izzo mentioned the idea of removing star Jeremy Fears Jr. from the starting lineup after dirty plays have popped up over the past week.

Not ideal, but in terms of a coach that can regain control of his room, is there anyone else you’d rather at the controls?
Fears leads this team in scoring, but you could argue that Jaxon Kohler’s ability to stretch the floor is just as important. We saw him put this team on his back against Nebraska early in January (19 points, 5-of-6 on 3’s with 11 rebounds), and that sort of secondary option is critical as we approach the postseason.
Slow starts have been the issue for State of late (47 first-half points during this losing streak against 97 after the break), and any hesitation out of the gates tonight will come back to haunt them.
Prediction: Illinois 77, Michigan State 71
