Matt Rhule’s True Role Comes to Light As Nebraska Gets a ‘Next-Level’ Commitment Move in QB Room Following Dylan Raiola’s Departure

Matt Rhule's role is revealed by a Nebraska commit, who made made a rare move on Wednesday to prove his loyalty towards the Huskers.

Things were not in favor for Matt Rhule’s Nebraska in the 2025 season, as the Huskers saw quarterback Dylan Raiola transferring to Oregon following a 7-6 season. Rhule aggressively attacked the transfer portal and added experienced talent like Anthony Colandrea to reshape the quarterback room ahead of the 2026 season.

Nebraska is expected to have an open competition at quarterback, giving one of the program’s current QB commits a chance to step in and make an immediate impact upon arriving in 2027.

Matt Rhule’s Influence Shines As Nebraska Gets a Rare Commitment in QB Room

Nebraska four-star quarterback Trae Taylor announced on Wednesday that he would spend his final high school season at Millard South in Nebraska, following a promising junior year at Carmel Catholic in Illinois. Rivals ranks him as the No. 4 quarterback in the nation and the No. 71 overall player in the 2027 class.

After making the move, Taylor told a KETV Sports reporter that Rhule supports his decision and even helped him connect with Millard South.

“He said ‘do what you think you need to do,’” Taylor said. “He didn’t push me to go to high school there. I’m moving in the state, so me being there and in-state, I feel like, why would I take this step forward in my career if I’m not going to be committed to the Huskers. So figured it’s the best way to say that I’m fully committed without me just talking about it.”

Taylor committed to Nebraska on May 1, and the Huskers have rarely seen a commitment like him, who frequently fought off rumors that he might flip to other schools. Rivals national recruiting reporter Greg Smith called Taylor’s early commitment “next-level.”

Taylor himself came up with a tweet to outline the goals for his high school move.

“This decision was not taken lightly. I’ll be living in Lincoln, commuting to Omaha. So any chance I’m allowed in the facilities I’ll be there. Kinda a redshirt year at a slower pace. 2) I don’t want to miss a single recruit that comes in. None of this is possible without my Coach @Jmack37 and his support, and him giving me the green light to go be great nothing but love. And of course my @CorsairsFB teammates my progress was faster because of you. Thank you Corsairs community,” Taylor posted.

According to MaxPreps, Taylor completed 205 of 251 passes for 3,571 yards and 38 touchdowns while also running for 633 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. He will now aim to finish his high school career at Millard South, which won the 2025 NSAA Class A State Championship with a 12‑1 record.

Besides Taylor, the PFSN College Football Offense Impact Metric’s No. 36 team, Nebraska, has five other committed players in the 2027 class, including four-star players like safety Tory Pittman and running back Amir Brown.
