Manchester United and Chelsea have both started 2026 by appointing new head coaches on a caretaker and permanent basis, respectively. Michael Carrick will be in charge of the Red Devils until the end of June, while Liam Rosenior has a Blues contract until 2032.
Manchester United, Chelsea Predicted To Have Fine End To Season
Earlier this Saturday, Jan. 17, both Carrick and Rosenior oversaw their first Premier League match in charge of their respective new clubs. Manchester United defeated Manchester City 2-0 at Old Trafford, while Chelsea also registered a 2-0 victory against Brentford.
And, according to the Betting Lounge’s supercomputer, Carrick and Rosenior will both hand their clubs UEFA Champions League action next season. The Blues are expected to achieve a fourth-place finish again, and the Red Devils will finish in a respectable fifth spot.
According to the supercomputer, the Blues are set to finish the 2025-26 Premier League campaign on 61 points, with 17 wins in 38 matches. The Red Devils, on the other hand, will earn 58 points at the end of May, securing a final spot just above Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are expected to win the Premier League title this season with 86 points. Manchester City and Aston Villa will be second and third, respectively, with 79 points and 76 points. Reigning champions Liverpool will finish seventh with 57 points from 38 games.
Right now, Chelsea are sixth with just 34 points from 22 games, and Manchester United are in seventh place with 35 points from the same number of Premier League matches.

Manchester United Urged To Sign Chelsea Superstar
Former Red Devils coach Rene Meulensteen has told the Old Trafford club to launch a move for Cole Palmer if USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino joins the club this summer.
“Could Mauricio Pochettino convince Palmer to come to Manchester United? Only if Chelsea would be willing to let him go. Palmer is a fantastic player, and I think he would suit United really well and the way they should be playing because he is a difference-maker. That’s always what you want,” Meulensteen told Casinostugan.
“Palmer was a boyhood United fan and it’s actually too strange for words that United never picked up on it and made sure that they sounded him out about his plans if he ever were to leave City. It’s very strange that it never happened, in my opinion,” he concluded.
Since leaving Manchester City in 2023, Palmer has produced 48 goals and 29 assists in 110 matches across all competitions, including 98 starts, for the Stamford Bridge team.
