Novak Djokovic is still chasing more Grand Slam titles and Olympic success, but away from his life on tour, the Serbian legend has a passion that has nothing to do with tennis. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has shared that one of his favorite things off the court is travelling to historic places around the world.
Novak Djokovic’s Post-Tennis Travel Dreams
38-year-old Djokovic has no plans to retire anytime soon. He has already set his target on the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and is focused on extending his career. However, when the day finally comes to step away from tennis, Djokovic already knows how he wants to spend his time- traveling the world and exploring ancient cultures with his family.
In an interview with Travel and Leisure, Djokovic described himself as a “serious history lover.” He said that visiting museums and archaeological sites has become a significant part of his family’s vacations, especially since having his kids, Stefan and Tara. Traveling with them has turned his holidays into both learning experiences and time to relax.
“I’m a serious history lover, and one of my favorite things to do on family holidays is visit local museums and archaeological sites with my two children. I haven’t been to Africa yet, and I’d love to take them to Egypt to see the pyramids,” Djokovic said.
For Djokovic, seeing some of the world’s oldest landmarks is just as exciting as competing. He also shared his interest in South America, saying the ancient Mayan and Incan sites are still high on his travel wish list.
“It’ll be there or a big trip to South America to see ancient Mayan and Incan sites. When it comes to travel, I feel I still haven’t visited many of the places that will leave the biggest impressions on me,” he added.
Djokovic’s Health Worries Before Australian Open
While those travel plans are for the future, Djokovic’s focus right now is on his health, as he is facing new injury concerns less than a week before the first Grand Slam of the season. It’s raising questions about how ready Djokovic will be in Melbourne. These concerns also arose shortly after he withdrew from the Adelaide International.
On Wednesday, Djokovic returned to Melbourne Park for practice, holding two separate sessions. First, he trained with Daniil Medvedev on Rod Laver Arena and lost a practice set 5-7. Although he looked good in longer rallies, there were some significant issues.

He also had a practice session with Jiri Lehecka, but it lasted only 12 minutes as the Serbian again appeared to hurt his neck. Djokovic struggled with his serve, and his physio, Miljan Amanovic, was seen working on him courtside.
Djokovic hasn’t played a competitive match since November 8, 2025, when he won the Hellenic Championship in Greece.
Djokovic, being a 10-time Australian Open champion, hasn’t won a Grand Slam since lifting the US Open trophy in 2023.
While he reached the semifinals at all four majors last season, losses to Alexander Zverev, Jannik Sinner, and Carlos Alcaraz show just how tough the challenge has become for him at the later stages of his career.
