Emma Navarro made a major sponsorship shift ahead of the Australian Open as the American player left her previous brand, Fila, and joined FP Movement. Navarro is in action at the Adelaide International, looking to fine-tune her game before she enters the Melbourne Major next week.
Emma Navarro Changes Sponsors And Joins Danielle Collins And Others in a New Brand
The FP Movement is a new and emerging brand specializing in women’s activewear and workout gear. The company has ventured into the world of tennis, having already signed WTA stars like Danielle Collins, Sloane Stephens, and Sofia Kenin. However, signing Emma Navarro has been the biggest coup for the company so far.
The freedom to let her input be taken seriously while designing the kits was a major selling point for Navarro as she decided to enter this new collaboration ahead of the big event. The American tennis player was looking forward to wearing kits that reflected her own design ideas and personality on court.
“It’s really exciting to work with a brand that allows me to add my personal touch to [the kits]….I’ll be wearing outfits that I worked on designing…outfits that I’m really excited to wear and feel like myself in… and I’m excited for people to get a better sense of my style and personality through that,” said Navarro
Navarro will be sporting the “Crossover Set,” a design created by the brand, which will serve as a symbol of their new collaboration with Navarro. The kit will include a periwinkle racebank tank top, along with a black skirt, which the American will wear in Melbourne.
Navarro lost her opening match of the season against Francesca Jones in the second round in Brisbane. However, she has shown signs of better form in Adelaide, winning her matches against the likes of Emerson Jones and Yulia Putintseva, and will face Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinals.
Navarro had a middling season last year, with the American winning one title at the Merida Open, but did not reach any other semifinals. The quarterfinals proved to be a hurdle for her, as she had seven exits at that stage across events.
However, Navarro will look to have a deep run at the Australian Open, as she has points from her quarterfinal run last year to defend. She won against the likes of Peyton Stearns, Wang Xiyu, Ons Jabeur, and Daria Kasatkina before losing to Iga Świątek in the quarterfinals.
