Fans Worried for Jannik Sinner After WTA Player Highlights Severe Sunburn Issues in Australia

The WTA World No. 80 is set to begin her Australian Open campaign and faces the task of navigating a challenging draw, but the sweltering conditions in Melbourne may be just as demanding. Zarazúa recently shared an image on her Instagram story, revealing a severe sunburn.

This post quickly drew attention online and highlighted the harsh climate players could face during the tournament. Zarazúa captioned, “Australian sun is no joke.”

While Zarazúa’s concerns stemmed from skin damage, extreme heat has affected players in far more serious ways at other tournaments. One such instance came at the Shanghai Masters, where Jannik Sinner’s title defence ended abruptly when he was forced to retire mid-match against Tallon Griekspoor in the third round due to severe physical distress.

It is worth noting that Sinner has been engaged in a long-term partnership with the renowned French skincare brand La Roche-Posay since 2024, an initiative aimed at promoting awareness and protection against harmful UV exposure. In light of the recent heat concerns, several fans were quick to reference the collaboration, urging the Italian to make use of it before stepping on court.

“my god janniksin pls remember you’re sponsored by a sunscreen brand,” one said.

“tons of sunscreen for you @janniksin,” another said.

“ooo ginger is finished, la roche posay ain’t doing sh*t against this,” a fan chimed in.

One fan voiced concern by suggesting that Zarazúa apply aloe vera to soothe the sunburn.

“This is bad… like really bad… she needs some aloe Vera rn,” they wrote.

“Looks like she didn’t use sunscreen ??? Bcs you really can’t get this burnt with sunscreen,” another said.

“Luh. Speaking of the devil, took my skin almost a year to recover after just a month in western australia. Australian weather is the worst enemy of the human skin,” one commented.

MORE: Following Jannik Sinner’s Retirement and Novak Djokovic’s Complaints, ATP Approves Implementation of New Rule Set

Mounting concerns over extreme playing conditions and heat, intensified by Sinner’s retirement in Shanghai and Novak Djokovic’s repeated complaints, prompted the ATP Board of Directors to step in. In response, the governing body approved a new framework of mandatory health protections, set to take effect from the 2026 season.

The revised regulations will formally incorporate cooling breaks into match play. Moreover, under the new provision, players may request a 10-minute recovery pause after the second set, offering vital relief and aiding physical recovery in extreme conditions.
