The Los Angeles Chargers announced major coaching news on Jan. 13. They moved on from the offensive coordinator, Greg Roman, after spending two years at the facility. But just after NFL insiders revealed it, the NFL world, including star reporters and analysts, reacted with varied perspectives.
How Did the NFL World React to the Chargers Firing Greg Roman?
After the news was reported, FS1 analyst Danny Parkins commented, “Give Mike McDaniel anything he wants.” After the Miami Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel last week. But per the NFL analyst, McDaniel could be a great fit for head coach Jim Harbaugh’s coaching squad.

McDaniel served as head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2022 to 2025, compiling a 35–33 regular-season record. He made an immediate impact in 2022, finishing 9–8 and ending Miami’s playoff drought. That season was followed by an 11–6 campaign in 2023, when the Dolphins led the NFL in total offense and returned to the postseason.
The momentum stalled in 2024 with an 8–9 record, missing the playoffs, and declined further in 2025, as Miami finished 7–10, leading to McDaniel’s dismissal after four seasons. So, that’s why this reaction by an NFL analyst was worth noticing.
After that reaction, another reporter claimed that the Chargers player had no good words to describe Roman when asked. James Palmer said, “This isn’t shocking if you heard the players’ comments about Roman after their embarrassing loss to the Patriots. The majority of the players were noncommittal in their answers when asked about Roman remaining the OC.”

Following this comment, former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst, Dan Orlovsky, also reacted with just one word, “wow.”
Roman began his coaching career in 1995 with the Carolina Panthers and later coached tight ends and quarterbacks with the Houston Texans before becoming an assistant with the Baltimore Ravens.
He broke through as offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers (2011–2014) under Jim Harbaugh. He then spent a season with the Buffalo Bills (2015–2016), followed by three seasons as OC with the Baltimore Ravens (2019–2022).
In those years, he earned AP Assistant Coach of the Year in 2019 and coached Lamar Jackson to MVP honors. Roman joined the Los Angeles Chargers as OC in 2024, but he was fired after the 2025 season following a poor playoff performance.
Greg Roman was just fired by the Chargers
he previously was the OC for the Ravens
and absurd nugget from his time in BAL:
in FOUR YEARS Lamar was never allowed to “slide pass protection” if there was a blitz!
or audible the play!!

But here is a big revelation. Per reporter Warren Sharp, “In four years, Lamar was never allowed to ‘slide pass protection’ if there was a blitz!”
The poor offensive play-calling, lack of freedom for the QB, and inefficiency at the highest level when winning are the major reasons for the firing of the Chargers’ OC.
