NFL Insider Reveals What John Harbaugh ‘Desires’ Amid Former Ravens HC’s Search for New Team

An NFL insider reveals what John Harbaugh is looking for in his next job and why the Giants and Titans stand out.

One of the most shocking of this year’s coaching cycle happened when the Baltimore Ravens fired John Harbaugh. Although the Ravens have underachieved with Lamar Jackson, not many people believed the organization would move on from a coach like Harbaugh. As soon as Harbaugh was relieved of his duties in Baltimore, he became the hottest head coach on the market.

On Tuesday, an NFL insider shed light on what the veteran head coach is prioritizing as he searches for his next head coaching destination.”

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan Reveals John Harbaugh’s Coaching Criteria

In a post on X, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan said Harbaugh is looking for three factors beyond the obvious of ownership and organizational structure: 1. Quality QB 2. Draft capital 3. Cap space + financial. All of Harbaugh’s desires for a landing spot make sense for a veteran head coach.

“Harbaugh is coming from an organization that met at least one of these desires. Baltimore possesses more than a quality QB in Jackson, who is one of the league’s best. Given that, the Ravens didn’t have a surplus of cap space, but they did use it effectively. In terms of draft capital, since Baltimore is normally one of the best teams in the AFC with Jackson, they didn’t have high draft picks, but they did capitalize on them.

As Raanan notes, the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans both fit all these categories. However, the Titans may fit Harbaugh’s wish list for draft capital a little more. Over the next two years, Tennessee has all of its draft picks, whereas the Giants are missing two draft picks in 2026.

That said, Tennessee also has far more work to do from a roster-construction standpoint. The Titans are in need of a near-complete rebuild on defense and must add significant help at the skill positions on offense. New York, on the other hand, has a more defined path forward. The Giants still need to address their secondary, bolster the offensive line, and add another wide receiver or two, but the foundation is more stable.

In addition, based on their rookie seasons, some believe Jaxon Dart will be a better QB than Cam Ward. According to PFSN’s QB impact metric, Dart earned a 76.5 impact grade in 2025, whereas Ward earned a 59.8. If Harbaugh lands with either the Giants or Titans, there is faith he can turn them around. It ultimately comes down to how long the 63-year-old coach is willing to wait for success.
