Stefanos Tsitsipas began his Adelaide International campaign, following his strong performances during the 2026 United Cup tournament, where he helped Greece advance to the quarterfinals alongside WTA star Maria Sakkari and others.
He has recently shared his thoughts on his round of 32 battle against an Australian player, further reflecting on his progress and mindset for 2026.
Stefanos Tsitsipas Bounces Back After Adelaide Loss Staying Focused on Big 2026 Goals
Tsitsipas has participated in all four United Cup tournaments representing his homeland, and this year, he finished with a 3-0 record. In the quarterfinals, he defeated World No. 9, Taylor Fritz, who was battling knee tendonitis. However, Greece lost to the United States, bringing its impressive run to an end.
After the mixed-gender tournament, he entered the Adelaide International as the seventh seed, losing in the round of 32 to Aleksandar Vukic, the current World No. 87, with a scoreline of 7-6(3), 7-6(5). The Greek star previously competed against Vukic last year at the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo, winning the round of 16, with a concluding score of 6-3, 6-0.
During his post-match conference, Tsitsipas reflected, acknowledging his optimism and stating that he won’t let an early setback dampen his hopes of performing at an elite level. While expressing his positive mindset and his goals for his 2026 season, he added, “I am playing good tennis. I won’t let a result like this define the beginning of my year. I’m just focused on big goals, and I want to accomplish great things this year. It all depends on me, how much I’m going to work on the court and the consistency that I’m going to show every single day. I have a long year, and I’m looking forward on getting it started in the best possible way.”
Due to his back injury, the World No. 33 had to conclude his 2025 season at the US Open, losing the second round to Daniel Altmaier. Considering his thoughts on his injury, Tsitsipas had earlier revealed that he is healthy and fit to continue, “So far everything is good. It’s great feedback, knowing that sort of thing, knowing that I’m not feeling any aches or pains. I’m actually very pleased that I get to enjoy tennis daily, without any discomfort and pain that might be causing me more stress in everyday life.”
He continued, highlighting the significance of health, “I’m super glad I get to play the sport that I love. Health is the most important thing in the world. I’m really truly enjoying every single match that I get to play pain free.”
Despite battling health limitations and coaching changes, Tsitsipas was able to clinch the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after surpassing Felix Auger-Aliassime, whom he leads in their head-to-head with 7-3.
