Where Are the Two Teams Standing Heading Into the Fiesta Bowl?
Ahead of tonight’s Fiesta Bowl clash between Ole Miss and Miami, both teams are coming off different performances. The Hurricanes are coming off a string of impressive performances, holding the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas A&M to under 17 points.
Meanwhile, the Rebels are coming off an explosive offensive performance, scoring 39 points against the Georgia Bulldogs. This is what Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding had to say ahead of the Fiesta Bowl.
“To be honest with you, I don’t think the players give a damn about who runs them out of the tunnel. They care about the plan. They care about getting held accountable and how they’re going to prepare.” Golding stated. This came after chaos ripped apart the Rebels’ coaching staff.
Golding’s staff was thrown into disarray after multiple assistants decided to follow Lane Kiffin to LSU. The offensive coordinator, Charlie Weis Jr., and running back coach, Kevin Smith, are expected to finish the season, however.
Weis Jr. was a key part of Ole Miss’ offense’s playcalling this season, which ranked 13th nationally in total offense per the PFSN College Football OFFi, averaging 309.6 passing yards per game, and 11th in scoring with 37.3 points per game.
“But certainly, they’re an excellent, excellent offense. No one’s really had any success against them whatsoever. So looking forward to the opportunity to compete.” Mario Cristobal complimented Ole Miss’s offense in his press conference before tonight’s Fiesta Bowl.
Following that statement, Miami’s defense, which ranked fifth nationally according to PFSN rankings, will have the opportunity to lock horns with Weis Jr.’s explosive offense. The Fiesta Bowl will take place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ, tonight.
