Kliff Kingsbury is likely to find a new job soon. Moments after news surfaced that the Washington Commanders were moving on from their offensive coordinator, Kingsbury emerged as a potential candidate for multiple openings, including with a division rival.
Kliff Kingsbury Draws Early HC Interest After Washington Commanders Exit
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Kingsbury is expected to interview with the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans, among others, for their open head-coaching positions. The interest comes immediately after Washington and Kingsbury mutually agreed to part ways on Tuesday, following a disappointing 2025 season. Kingsbury met with head coach Dan Quinn earlier this week to discuss the future of the offense, and the two sides decided to move in different directions after the team finished with a 5–12 record.

The Commanders’ offense regressed sharply in 2025. Injuries ravaged Washington’s roster, most notably at quarterback. Quarterback Jayden Daniels missed 10 games due to multiple injuries, and Washington’s full starting offense did not play a regular-season snap together until Week 14.
Kingsbury’s stock remains buoyed by what he accomplished in 2024. In his first season with Washington, he built an offense around Daniels that blended Air Raid principles with tempo, run-pass options, and designed quarterback movement. The Commanders finished sixth in PFSN’s OFFi last season and 11th in 2025. Daniels delivered one of the most productive rookie quarterback seasons in NFL history, earning AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
That résumé is particularly relevant for the Giants, who are searching for an offensive-minded head coach capable of developing a young quarterback. Kingsbury’s reputation as a quarterback-friendly coach has followed him throughout his career, dating back to his time coaching Patrick Mahomes at Texas Tech.
Washington’s offensive numbers fell into the bottom third of the league in 2025, but Kingsbury publicly acknowledged shortcomings and emphasized self-evaluation as the season wore on. Several Commanders players, including Daniels and Marcus Mariota, praised Kingsbury’s offensive vision and preparation methods even after his departure.
Kingsbury’s previous head-coaching stint with the Arizona Cardinals will factor into any evaluation. However, teams appear increasingly willing to re-examine offensive coaches with prior experience, especially given recent success stories around the league.
With six head coaching jobs already open, it should be a busy few weeks for Kingsbury.
