Ole Miss offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr has recently been linked to a job in the NFL. Weis is set to join Lane Kiffin‘s new staff at LSU in 2026, following the end of Ole Miss’s playoff run. The offensive coordinator has been linked to a job with the New York Giants.
Following Weis Jr’s decision to remain with Ole Miss for the rest of their historic playoff run, running Backs coach Kevin Smith and tight ends coach Joe Cox are all expected to depart for LSU to join Lane Kiffin.
Charlie Weis Jr. Reaffirms LSU Commitment
Following recent rumors linking the Ole Miss offensive coordinator to a job in the NFL, a recent report has revealed that Weis Jr. has no interest in leaving college football. During this statement, the offensive coordinator denied any interest in joining the Giants.

“On3’s Chris Low is here to clear that up. Charlie Weis Jr. spoke with the college football insider, denying interest in the Giants and the NFL as a whole for that matter, as he finished up his duties with Ole Miss before jetting to join Lane Kiffin at LSU.” The report read.
Weis Jr. was a key part of Ole Miss’ offense’s playcalling this season, which ranked 13th nationally in total offense per the PFSN College Football OFFi, averaging 309.6 passing yards per game, and 11th in scoring with 37.3 points per game.
Weis Jr’s father, Charlie Weis, was a former New England Patriots offensive coordinator, which has fueled the rumors that the Ole Miss offensive coordinator could make the switch to the NFL. It was reported by national reporter Jordan Raanan that his name had come up.
Additionally, Weis Sr has a good standing with the Giants’ ownership. Weis Sr. was an assistant coach with the Giants between 1990 and 92 before joining the New England Patriots staff between 1993 and 96.
“Heard an interesting name as a possibility to work with quarterback Jaxson Dart on the next Giants staff… Charlie Weis Jr. Connection to Dart from Ole Miss. Father was a longtime NFL coach. Would be intriguing option.” Raanan stated.
While the offensive coordinator has shut down any interest, LSU also has protections in place against Weis leaving the program. The sides agreed to a buyout clause worth 300 percent of Weis’s salary, roughly $7.5 million, should he leave LSU before the first of April.
“I’m fired up about finishing the job at Ole Miss and the future at LSU.” Weis Jr revealed to Low. Additionally, it was also stated in the report that “Several of Ole Miss’ offensive players even praised Weis for his commitment to the team.”
Following his decision, Weis Jr’s future appears to be set in stone. Following the Fiesta Bowl against the Miami Hurricanes this week, he will either depart for LSU following the game or remain at Ole Miss until the National Championship, should they win.
