5 Transfer Portal Landing Spots for Iowa State WR Chase Sowell

Iowa State University senior wide receiver Chase Sowell entered the transfer portal with one year of remaining eligibility, looking for a sound fit.

Iowa State wide receiver Chase Sowell entered the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining. The two-time transfer leaves Ames after one season, tallying 32 catches for 500 yards and two touchdowns. Now, he looks for his final collegiate season to be both productive and lucrative.

Arkansas

While the Hogs do not offer a contending team, new head coach Ryan Silverfield brings a wide-open passing attack to Fayetteville. Sowell’s potential arrival could not come at a better time.

Arkansas lost its leading receivers, O’Mega Blake and Raylen Sharpe, to graduation. Watching 99 receptions, 1,361 yards, and eight touchdowns walk out the door leaves a canyon-sized hole in the passing game. Sowell would not only become the starter but also the go-to target for whoever lines up at quarterback. Additionally, a sizable NIL check could be on the horizon.

Houston

Sowell is from Humble, Texas, 20 minutes northeast of Houston. The Cougars are pushing to break through in the Big 12, with resources available. Head coach Willie Fritz wants to bring back local talent through the portal. Sowell must weigh playing close to home against chasing a College Football Playoff bid, which UH currently can’t offer.

UTSA

As a Group of Five school, Texas-San Antonio offers Sowell something rare: over 100 targets. Devin McCuin returns as the leading receiver with 726 yards. With Sowell, the Roadrunners can spread teams out.

With the 2027 draft looming, a 1,000-yard season could put him firmly on the radar. Some scouts desperately want to evaluate players using numbers. From there, they can focus solely on the film, knowing the athlete can handle the burden of expectation.

Texas A&M

After a taste of the CFP, what will the Aggies do next? They lost wideout KC Concepcion to the draft, leaving a spot open. Mario Craver is now the main option, but at 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, he’s a press coverage target.

Sowell’s 6’3″, 210-pound frame gives him an edge as an X-receiver. Though he may not get most targets, the Aggies could make another CFP run. TAMU ranked No. 26 in PFSN’s Offense Impact metric, measuring efficiency and production.

SMU

When quarterback Kevin Jennings announced his return, the Mustangs began searching the portal to add talent around him. Slot receiver Yamir Knight is the top pass catcher, but can’t play outside due to size and durability. Sowell gives Jennings a vertical threat who can win contested catches and handle contact.
