‘Aaron Glenn Has To Be One and Done’ — Jets HC Draws Criticism From NFL World After Week 17 Disaster vs. Patriots

Aaron Glenn is dealing with increased criticism after the New York Jets' humiliating defeat against the Patriots in Week 17.

The New York Jets suffered one of the worst defeats in their recent history, losing 42-10 to the New England Patriots in Week 17 after an error-filled performance. Aaron Glenn faces even more pressure as the Patriots, led by Drake Maye, scored six touchdowns, including four passing touchdowns, before removing their starting QB for the second half.

This defeat raised new questions about the future of the head coach at the New York franchise, as fans had already been furious since the 48-20 defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Local news reports during the week indicated that Glenn would remain secure in his position, but another humiliating defeat could alter the franchise’s direction.

Aaron Glenn Under Heavy Pressure at the New York Jets

Even with low expectations for the season due to a depleted receiving corps, defensive issues with Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, and a quarterback competition featuring Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook, the rookie head coach is still seen as the main culprit for the franchise’s current dire situation.

Glenn’s job should have been to lay the foundations for a more promising future, but his decisions led the team into a downward spiral of defeats and a notable lack of competitiveness.

“Aaron Glenn has to be one and done with the Jets; don’t see any possible scenario where they can bring him back”, wrote Todd Fuhrman, CBS Sports analyst.

Chad Forbes compared Glenn’s situation to Jerod Mayo’s brief tenure with the Patriots, hinting that Glenn may also have a short stint after his toughest NFL defeat. Forbes wrote, “Aaron Glenn situation is virtually identical to Patriots 2024 with Jerod Mayo…Nice Guy that’s clearly in over his head.”

The Jets’ defense allowed Maye to throw four touchdown passes at MetLife Stadium in the first half alone, contributing to a humiliating score of 35-3 at the end of the second quarter. Before calling in the reserves to play in the second half, the Patriots’ offense was averaging over 8.0 yards per play, gaining a total of 424 yards in just two quarters.

“Aaron Glenn calling timeout here is indicative of a head coach who quite frankly does not get it.”, said Michel Hurley shortly before the break.

“I honestly can’t even process this. This is where the staff loses me. How does this get OKed?” SNY’s reporter, Connor Hughes, pointed this out when commenting on two fake punts on back-to-back fourth downs on the same possession.

The only positive news for the Jets amid Glenn’s struggles is the chance to land a top-five draft pick, and with it, a high-impact quarterback for next season. For now, all optimism hinges on dramatic change; the stakes for Glenn’s tenure could not be higher.
