What’s Happening With Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr.?

In that second quarter, Thomas spent time on the Jaguars’ sideline getting checked out.

According to a report from ESPN Jaguars reporter Michael DiRocco, Thomas was being checked out for an ankle injury.

“Trainers were looking at Brian Thomas Jr. left ankle/foot,” DiRocco wrote. “He’s on the sideline now, walking around.”

Thomas only has one catch for four yards and has only been targeted by Lawrence on that one play. Thomas did return to the game, but his injury situation will be worth keeping an eye on as the game progresses.

Thomas was a first-round draft choice (No. 23 overall) by the Jaguars in the 2024 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at LSU.

According to the PFSN NFL WR Impact metrics, Thomas has an impact score of 71.1 and grades out to a C-. So far this season, Thomas has 41 catches for 619 yards and two touchdown receptions. He’s averaging 15.1 yards per catch for Jacksonville this season, which has really helped Lawrence and the Jaguars’ offense.

In almost two seasons with Jacksonville, Thomas has 128 catches for 1,901 yards and 12 touchdown receptions. His career-long reception is an 85-yarder, which came in his rookie season. One thing that Thomas has going for him is ball control. He’s not fumbled once while playing with the Jaguars.

Is Thomas an option when the Jaguars look to run the ball? It’s a rather small sample size, but he has nine carries for 69 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

While Thomas has returned to the game against the Colts, a big one for Jacksonville, head coach Liam Coen and the team’s medical personnel will closely monitor him. Jacksonville really needs all hands on deck against Indianapolis and quarterback Philip Rivers.

But the Jaguars are going to have to come back in the second half after going into halftime down three points. Let’s see if Thomas has a bigger role in the Jaguars’ offense.
