With the Philadelphia Eagles securing a comfortable victory over the Washington Commanders last week, the season, as far as a playoff berth is concerned, officially came to an end for the Dallas Cowboys. However, facing the Washington Commanders in a divisional rivalry, they weren’t going to go down without a fight.
The first half, though, was about as good as the team could have anticipated. Dominating to the tune of 24-10, they took care of business from top to bottom. But, near the end of the period, they received a scary update on one of their most unlikely success stories of the season, as Javonte Williams went down with an injury.
What Happened to Javonte Williams?
After three consecutive touchdowns on their opening three possessions, the Cowboys were feeling themselves against a porous Commanders defense. However, their success for most of the second half had to come without Williams.
Making a four-yard run to add the second touchdown of the night for Dallas, he came away from the play with an injury to his shoulder. Clearly hampered, he was eventually taken out of the game entirely.
Soon after, Jon Machota of The Athletic confirmed on X, “Cowboys RB Javonte Williams is questionable with a shoulder injury.”
After 903 rushing yards as a rookie, Williams had failed to cross the 800-yard mark in any other season of his career with the Denver Broncos. This season, with a wafer-thin backfield, the Cowboys chose to take a shot by bringing him into the mix.

Immediately turning it into a career year, he had already tallied 1,147 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns coming into this game, ranking seventh on PFSN’s RB Impact, far and away a career-high (previous highest – 32nd in 2023).
Fantasy Impact of Williams’ Injury
Williams has been one of the best picks and best stories in all of fantasy football this season. He went from afterthought to every-week RB1. The good news is that he gave fantasy managers a touchdown before leaving the game.
The bad news is we may have seen the last of him, and nothing is worse than losing a player to an in-game injury in the final.
Without Williams, Malik Davis will serve as the lead back with Hunter Luepke mixing in as well. Obviously, there’s nothing for fantasy managers to do as the season is over this week.
