Leylah Fernandez and Sister Bianca Overjoyed After Bumping Into Renowned Comedian and SNL Star Marcello Hernández

The 23-year-old enjoyed a solid campaign in the 2025 season, and her results clearly backed that up. She ended the year with a 34-25 win-loss record and earnings of over $1.6 million, underlining her steady progress. She claimed two titles during the season at the Mubadala Citi DC Open and later the Kinoshita Group Japan Open on the Asian swing. The Canadian finished the year ranked No. 22 in the world.

But as noted, the Canadian player often pulls back the curtain on the life beyond the baseline. For instance, a few days ago, she built her carousel around her trip to New York. Fernandez seemingly embraced the city’s chilly weather and exuded grace while posing in a gray drop-shoulder jacket paired with white trousers.

Now, recently she shared her and her sister Bianca’s experience of bumping into Hernández, widely known for featuring in the American late-night live sketch comedy variety show Saturday Night Live. The 23-year-old shared a picture on Instagram featuring her and Bianca posing alongside the renowned TV personality.

Fernandez described the encounter as a pre-Christmas surprise, saying Marcello Hernández’s comedy brings her immense joy. She shared her love for watching him on SNL and jokingly invited him to join her as a tennis partner in the future.

“A little pre-Christmas treat this morning running into @marcellohdz on our way out of practice. If you know me, you know my favorite thing in life is laughing and this guy has made us both laugh a ton. We love watching his comedy on SNL. Marcello, if you ever are looking for a tennis buddy, you know where to find me!!! 😃,” she captioned.

Like Leylah, her younger sister Bianca Jolie Fernandez has also pursued a professional tennis career. She primarily competes on the ITF circuit and has made appearances on the main tour, reaching a career-high singles ranking of World No. 606. Bianca also played college tennis at the University of California, where she recorded a 17–11 win–loss record.
