New Orleans Saints’ beloved Swiss army knife, Taysom Hill, one of the most unique players in the NFL’s existence, posted an ultimate stat line against the New York Jets in Week 16. The nine-year Saints veteran threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave, rushing 12 times for 42 yards and adding four catches for 36 yards en route to a historic milestone.
With Hill eligible for free agency in 2026, his performance inside the Caesars Superdome carried added weight. What could have been his final home game as a Saint evoked an emotional postgame reaction from the longtime fan favorite.
More Than a Game: Taysom Hill’s Heartfelt Connection to New Orleans
No. 7 isn’t just some sideshow utility gadget; he’s an NFL legend and the embodiment of a true competitor.
It was clear after facing New York that his time with New Orleans holds a special place in his heart, one that caused him to fight back tears as he reflected on the possibility that his Saints tenure could soon be ending.
“I didn’t really feel any type of way this morning, but as I was driving to the stadium today, you start to think about the last nine years and what it’s meant to me and my family, this city and stuff,” Hill said, noting his entire family was in attendance.
“I think for me personally, you just try to take it all in, you know? We had a great experience here tonight, and I don’t know what the future holds for me, but it was a special day for me and my family.”
Following the Saints’ 29-6 win, New Orleans PR announced Hill now has 2,388 passing yards, 2,545 rushing yards, and 1,002 receiving yards in his career.
With his 36 receiving yards during the contest, Hill became the only player in the Super Bowl era with over 1,000 yards passing, rushing, and receiving in a truly remarkable testament to the fact that talent doesn’t have to fit into whatever mold the world may try to impose.
Hill, 35, has no desire to leave the Big Easy, but if business comes first, the decision may be out of his hands.
“I have so much love for the city of New Orleans and this fan base, and the way that they’ve embraced me and my family,” Hill continued.
“It’s been really special. I wouldn’t want to play somewhere else, but there’s a lot of circumstances that are out of your control, too. I understand the nature of this business, and I’m not thinking that way right now, but we’ll tackle that when we get there.”
Saints fans will still get to witness at least two more outings from Taysom Hill in black and gold: Dec. 28 at Tennessee and Jan. 4 in the season-finale road grudge match against their rival Falcons.
