NHL Trade Rumors: Boston Bruins ‘Circling Back’ on In-Demand Vancouver Canucks Scorer

Boston Bruins trade rumors heat up as the team circles back on Canucks winger Kiefer Sherwood while exploring forward upgrades for a playoff push.

The Boston Bruins are enjoying a strong season and currently sit third in the Atlantic Division with a 20-15-0 record. They’re coming off a 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, but they’ve still won five of their last seven games overall.

As they gear up for what they hope will be a deep playoff run, the Bruins are looking to add another forward to strengthen their lineup. That search has reportedly led them back to the Vancouver Canucks.

Bruins Reconnected to In-Demand Canucks Scorer

The Bruins have once again been linked to Canucks winger Kiefer Sherwood. Sherwood is in the final year of his two-year, $3 million contract, and without an extension, he is set to become an unrestricted free agent after next season.

With Vancouver struggling and sitting at the bottom of the Pacific Division, Canucks president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford had previously made it clear that the team was open to making moves. At that time, Boston showed interest in Sherwood, along with the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres, and Detroit Red Wings.

Following Vancouver’s recent blockbuster trade that sent star defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild, interest in Sherwood has reportedly picked up again. According to an NHL source, the Bruins have circled back to check in on the winger.

“Originally, the Canucks were asking for a first-rounder and a prospect, but unfortunately Sherwood’s production has gone down, and now the price has too,” Another NHL source said.

Sherwood has recorded 13 goals and 17 points through 33 games this season. He came out strong this season, raising his trade value. But mow his production has slowed down, with only one point over his last 11 games.

Earlier this month, Sherwood spoke with Sportsnet about the trade speculation. “I try not to look at (trade rumours),” Sherwood said. “I think we just try to focus on playing and stay in the present. I love it here and I love this group, and I’m just taking it day by day. That stuff will sort itself out.”

He acknowledged that trade speculation is part of life in the NHL, but made it clear where his focus remains. “I’m just trying to help this team turn things around and get back into the playoff picture,” Sherwood added.
