The Ottawa Senators’ season has been a rollercoaster so far, and they’re currently sitting third from the bottom in the Atlantic Division with a 15-13-4 record, having lost four of their last six games. Still, they’re coming off an encouraging 3-2 overtime win against the Winnipeg Jets on Monday, and Brady Tkachuk was right at the center of it.
Brady Tkachuk Leads the Charge in Senators’ Wild OT Win Against Winnipeg
Senators captain Brady Tkachuk suffered a fully torn ligament in his right thumb back in October against the Predators, an injury that required surgery. After missing 20 games, he returned to the lineup on November 28 against the St. Louis Blues.
On Monday night against the Winnipeg Jets, Tkachuk delivered the game-winner in overtime at 2:11. He finished off after taking a pass from Tim Stützle. The speed and confidence on the play looked like a clear sign that Tkachuk is truly back to his old form.

The overtime winner was the 12th overtime goal of his career and the second goal of the season, and now has 11 points in 12 games this season.
After the game, Tkachuk said the win felt especially satisfying given how the night unfolded. “I think we lead the league in losses by one goal,” Tkachuk said. “And we made an emphasis at six-on-five that we weren’t gonna get denied. So I mean, it took a little puck luck, but I think we’re due for that.”
Winnipeg dictated the pace for most of the night. Nick Cousins got Ottawa on the board first in the second period. But Neal Pionk answered later with a one-timer that found its way through traffic before Logan Stanley then put the Jets ahead 2–1 late in the second. However, Jake Sanderson struck in the final moments of the third period to send the game to overtime.
Looking back on the challenge of the season, Tkachuk admitted, “It’s been a grind to a certain extent. I’m just really happy with the two points at the end of the day.”
The moment carried extra meaning with family watching from the stands, including his maternal grandfather. “It’s nice to play in front of my grandpa, family, and it’s just nice to be here,” Tkachuk said.

Playing in Winnipeg also carries extra meaning for Tkachuk, as it was his father, Keith’s, team during his NHL career. “I think there’s a lot of memories here with our family, my dad, and my grandpa, and my mom being from here,” he said. “So yeah, I just always get excited playing here.”
Next up, Tkachuk and the Senators will return home to face the Penguins on Thursday.
