The Edmonton Oilers look like they’ve finally found their groove again after a rough start to the season. They’re coming off a 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday and have now taken three of their last four games.
Still, even with things turning around, goaltending remains a significant point of discussion. Trade chatter hasn’t slowed down, and now a Calder Cup-winning Sabres goalie has joined the list of potential targets.
Edmonton Shows Interest in Sabres’ Calder Cup Champion Netminder
The Oilers are still searching for help in net. Stuart Skinner has improved but remains inconsistent with an .891 SV% and 2.83 GAA, while Calvin Pickard’s numbers are also below average. Prospect Connor Ingram has shown flashes in Bakersfield but lacks consistency.
In 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman reported that Edmonton has looked into Pittsburgh’s Tristan Jarry and also checked in on Buffalo’s Alex Lyon, the 2022 Calder Cup champion. “In addition to Tristan Jarry, I believe the Oilers poked around Alex Lyon. Not as seriously as Jarry, but it was there.”
Lyon has put up solid numbers this season with a .902 save percentage and a 3.13 GAA. Friedman added that Pittsburgh’s unexpected surge in the Eastern Conference race makes them less motivated to move Jarry right now, especially since the Penguins aren’t willing to retain salary.
Goalie Targets Linked to the Oilers So Far (Quick recap)
- Tristan Jarry (Pittsburgh Penguins): Oilers have shown interest, but Pittsburgh’s strong playoff push and reluctance to retain salary make an in-season deal unlikely.

For now, GM Stan Bowman has been cautious. Many of the available goalies come with high price tags or tricky cap implications, and the Oilers don’t want to force a bad deal.
